thanks for attempt at answer...but since i don't have a manual, i will need to proceed on the fly .good tip to ground connections.

tks Tim, I beleive I actually have to take off the gas tank to get to my battery, so I therefore want to install some accessory link to the battery, so I won;t have to go throught this procedure gain if I ever want to add an electrical accessory...was hoping for an easy way around this process. Thanks, again for you help

Check your owners manual for location of your fuse box. You will probably find connections for accessories. If not make sure you use an inline fuse on the positive connection and then ground to the frame.....Good Luck and Nice Bike!

2003 BMW R 1150 RT (ABS) will not start

Hi, Cossar it should be noted that the reasons your FI light stays on constantly or flashes and your bike will or will not start and may turn over or not, these conditions will vary from bike to bike depending on the year, make, and model and you should always refer to your owners/service manual for proper diagnostic procedures. It should also be noted that any type of prior work done to the bike or an abnormal event occurrence IE: adding accessories, electrical curiosity/adventures, laying the bike down/crashes, rain storms/bike washings just before FI light issues started can be significant hints/aids into tracking down the gremlin. The newer the bike the more sensitive the ECM becomes and will not let the bike start when aftermarket accessories have been installed without being reprogrammed. That being said the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty Fuel Pump, fuse or system relay switch.
2. Battery starting to fail due to old age/damage, perform a load test.
3. A discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Faulty safety switches/sensors: run/off, ignition, clutch lever, neutral, side stand, tip over, fuel, and or their connections.
5. Broken wire or worn insulation exposing wire to a ground situation especially inside wire harness at tight bends around fairing brackets, under dash panels, under fuel tanks over cylinder heads etc. Many harnesses are open on the ends that will allow water to enter and accumulate at v-bends.
Dielectric grease and contact cleaner are your best friends for wire/cable/harness connectors, look for corroded, broken, or loose pins/sockets.
6. Installation of aftermarket accessories ie. exhaust systems, mufflers, air cleaners, fuel tuners, electrical component etc.

R 1150 gs Adventure , no spark no injection . Fuel pump works fine , triggers checked with GS 911 looks good

Hi, Spanidishar if you have a CKP sensor it needs compression to send the correct signal to the ICM/ECM, make sure both spark plugs are in heads and use a grounded third plug to check for spark or hold spark plug cable close to spark plug in the head. If still not getting spark the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
3. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
4. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting / leaking, spark plug cable connections loose.
5. Faulty ignition coil or ignition / electronic module
6. Failed CKP, CMP, or BAS sensor.
7. Faulty ignition switch.
8. Security alarm failing to disarm needs reset

Did the 2002 r1150gs come with a final drive with drain plug at bottom of fd? mine has a drain at the bottom. I was surprised.

All 1150 and 1100 GS bikes had a drain and fill plug on the final drive. The R1200GS did not come with a fill plug and the drain plug was located on the rear of the final drive on the early machines. It has since been relocated to the bottom of the housing on later models.

Throughout bearing failiure on my '01 1150 gs... how extensive is the repair?

it's not hard to do if you have the tools and torque wrench needed for the job. with the bike on it's center stand, remove the exhaust, rear wheel and then the lever giving access to the bearing. installation of the lever is the hard part. you must tighten and secure the lever bolts properly for safety (get a manual for tightening procedure and torque specs). bleeding the clutch is easy, ensure you use the right fluid.
