Hi Anonymous the vast majority of speedometer issues is caused by the speed sensor and or the wiring. On Sportsters the sensor is located on top of the engine case behind the rear cylinder, on big twins it's located on the right side of the transmission case between the starter end cap and the transmission top cover. Remove the bolt/screw that secures the sensor and lift the sensor out of the case. Inspect it for damage and contamination, if there appears to be no damage wipe the end of the sensor clean and reinstall, you can go for a short quick test ride to see if the speedo is working. If the issue still exists grab your test light and unplug the harness connector from the sensor, check for power (red wire) and ground (black wire) continuity coming from the speedo, there is also the connector that plugs into the speedometer, also look for corroded, broken or loose pin/sockets. If everything checks out OK then replace the speed sensor. For more information about your issue, please visit the websites below. Good luck and have a nice day.

Picket up problem with My pulser 150 ,2012 model.Bike unable to get more than 60-65 and making lot of engine sound. Could you please help me why it is ?

This sounds way below what it's able to do, although various reports limit top speed from 87 mph to 115 mph (dangerous, don't recommend)
However, if service center is saying it's bad gas, you could have gotten water into the tank. If so, the petrol station may have also had dirt and silt along with water and other debris from the bottom of the tank. Try replacing the fuel filter and see if that solves your problem. A poor or dirty fuel filter can make any vehicle have trouble at high speeds, as not enough gas will get to the carburetor.
Below that speed, it will seem to run pretty good; then at the top speed, will just drag and act like it's not getting enough matter what the throttle is doing. The key is it will usually run well at lower speeds, or knock or ping or backfire.

Try a fuel filter, and if that doesn't do it, check the plugs just to make sure the gunk from the tank didn't foul the plug too!.

I assume you mean how to test a stator pulser? The best way is with a peak reading volt meter set on dc volts. Has to be a peak reading meter a standard volt meter will not read. Pulser coils typically put out 2-7 vdc at cranking speed.

Locate speedometer cable

The speed meter cable arises from rear middle side of the transmission and is attached to the rear of combination meter assembly. It is a two part system. One is the inner speed meter wire and the outer cable or sleeve, in which the inner speed meter wire rotates to show the vehicle speed. The speed meter cable is in some Toyota models is made up or two cables, a smaller cable near the transmission side and larger one towards the meter, which are joined together to form a single piece First look up the inner wire of smaller piece and then pull out the other larger inner wire, without removing the whole cable. If it is found broken, replace the whole assembly.
To replace the speed meter cable assembly, unscrew the cable at the transmission side. Sit on a driver's seat, open the Philips screws from under side of the combination meter. Pull out the whole cover by tilting it to release from the steering wheel. Unscrew the 4 Philips screws, pull out the meter assembly a bit, bend your claw to approach behind the meter assembly, push the speed meter plastic lock force fully towards the cable and pull out the cable.
Ask your companion to slowly pull out the cable from the engine compartment side and you also push the cable towards the same direction simultaneously to take it out.
Install the new cable in the reversed order of dis assembly.
Hope that works. Thank you.

Speedometer repair

Definitely! When you put a larger or smaller tire it will effect it and so will changing any gear ratios. The speed- o- meter is calibrated for a specific tire size and a certain gear ratio and anything that deviates from that will cause the speed- o- meter to show faster or slower depending on the change. Think if it this way a 16" tire will travel farther in one revolution than a 14" will. Therefore if your car/truck came out with 14" tires and you put 16" tires on it then the speed O meter will show you are traveling slower than what you are. The opposite applies if you downsize. Changing differentials that have a different gear ratio can also affect it. It's a good way to get a speeding ticket. If you put smaller tires on one then the speed- o- meter will show you going faster than you are and it will take more RPM's to reach the same speed, thus causing it to use more fuel.
If you are going to change the tie size or gear ratio very much I would suggest investing in a good Radar Detector! Good luck.

I have a 2000 VW beatle showing a trouble code P0322 Speed Sensor. I checked with Ohms meter and received correct reading? Car cuts off when hot.

Speed Sensor has nothing to do with the engine cutting off
PO322 is a Generic Code for a Knock Sensor
You need to Google your codes & read up
An OHM Meter won't do anything for you on a Speed
Sensor, need a scan tool or scope
I would say you have an overheating condition to correct
& the knock sensor plays a role, wouldn't you think!

How do you time a 1985 200s honda atc motor

Remove round cover from side of head, hook up ohm meter wires to either side of points if older unit, rotate engine and you should loose continuity at TDC.On newer ones with pulser plate I just rotated it until it ran the best.I have not had to time one in a long time so I hope this helps.
