Question about Motorcycles
The electrical start button makes a grinding noise and wont start the ATV, but the pull rope will. what is wrong with it.
It sounds like the bendix, or engagement clutch is not fully engaging.
Unfortunatly this is a starter removal issue - you have to take the starter off to verify it.
The starter motor is turning (if it wasn't it wouldn't grind) so your batt and electric are good to that point.
Check the dealer to see if there are any similar problems for others and check "Bike Bandit" to see if they have the parts diagram - It is always easier, if you can see how the parts go together.

Try shorting out the 2 10mm nuts on the starter relay (has the lead from the battery and starter going to it) if the the engine turns over chech the relay or safety switches. It will flash so make sure the is no open fuel. If nothing happens try tapping the starter motor l(lightly) then try it. If this works the brushes in the starter are worn out..Dont keep on doing it as you will burn the comutator in the starter..Brushes are cheap.

I don't have a solution but I do have the exact same problem, '03 or '04 (not sure) Suzuki 250 Quadrunner Ozark, really low hrs, left in storage for 2.5 yrs, gas went bad, cleaned it out, now hard to start and won't idle by itself.
I have taken the carb apart and cleaned it out, but did not replace anything, and it will still not start very easily or idle. Before I took the carb apart I thought it was flooding because it would start with the accelerator wide open, but when I would let off, it would die again. Whats going on?? I really don't want to pay to have it fixed.
