What is causing the fast Idle and slowing down


well gee, there are 50 reasons.
did you scan the PCM yet, if not ,why not?
when the idle surges, that means.
NO RPM ranges stated, if super low rpm check EGR.

1: engine lean and ISC dead, or cant handle the huge engine power drop..The PCM can even make this worse!, buy hunting the ISC to find spec, idle and failing... to...
2: or any of 50 other things causing huge engine power drop and PCM can't maintain idle controls.
super lean burn.(bogging)
super rich burn, misfire for 50 reasons.

i cant hear your engine,nor feel it, or see it shake from gross misfiring.
no can i drive it and see/feel power loss,
can I?
asking net bunny's this (blind as bats)
is "OVER THE TOP" no?
so here , ill toss the dice for you
and guess gross misfiring.
ever get a tuneup this decade, if not bingo , no?

we do 1 to 10 tests. and find it.
for sure.

as you can see EFI systems are complex.
gue$$ is not only expensive but can net you 2 problems easy.

What's wrong when there is coolant leaking in the middle of the back of the engine? Also temperature gets hot fast. Constantly having to add water or coolant.


sounds like you may have a blown head gaskit that has to be replaced. Because you are loosing coolant\water your engine will get hot faster.

HAVE A 2010 SUZUKI SX4, CHANGED BATTERY, WENT TO GET INSPECTION, FAILED. MECHANIC SAID I NEED TO DRIVE IT ABOUT 80 MILES TO RESET COMPUTER. WHAT DO YOU THINK?


Is see stress.. i feel it. CAPS
that is correct. removing the battery resets the ECU/PCM
this causes all EPA mandated monitors to RESET TOO.
and you must drive them to completion.

the 2 hards ones are:
EVAP, take must not be full. keep below 3/4 and drive.
(hint, needs that air space on top to run the test)
EVAP mon. can take 30minute so finish on many cars...
(evap means fuel tank vent system tests) EPA is strict here.

EGR. takes, a hot engine. drive fast, say 45+ mph and cruise on flat ground
this finishes, test 1, test 2 is , coast fast to a stop. gently braking.
free way off ramp is perfect stop.

all others are fast on a hot engine, and yes it must get
to 180F+ and hold hot, or all bets off,.... all. !!!

2000 Oldsmobile Bravada. Engine is running hot, and I have intermittent heat. I've replaced the thermostate last week and now the problem is worse than before. Engine will get up to 260 check gauges light...


CHECK FOR LOW COOLANT.YOUR CLUTCH FAN COULD BE BAD IT CAUSING ENGINE TO OVERHEAT.WHEN ENGINE GET HOT THE SILICONE OIL IN FAN CLUTCH GET HOT CAUSE THERMOSTAT SPRING EXPAND CAUSE FAN CLUTCH TO LOCK IN TURN FAST WITH ENGINE TO COOL OFF ENGINE. IF FAN IS WOBBLY OR FREEWHEELING ITS BAD.

1995 cutlass supreme. There are two cooling fans.


it will come on but only when the engine is very hot and the first fan cant cool it down that fast,, its turned on by a difrent heat censor so the engine needs to be realy hot to set the second fan running and it may even then only run for 30 seconds till the engine temp drops off,,, as long as the car is running in the normal heat range dont worry about it,,, if its cooking way up in the red,,,,,now worry about it,,fast too,,

Cranks fast but takes a while to turn over when still warm


sounds like the starter moter is getting hot, or petrol is evaporating when turned off

Engine getting weak in hot season


I WOULD CHECK THE LEFT FRONT CORNER OF THE HEAD FOR A GASKET LEAK IF THIS IS A 2.2L ENGINE. ALSO CHECK THE WATER PUMP. THE HEAD CAN ALSO CRACK WHEN THERE IS A POWER LOSS.

I WOULD CHECK THE WATER PUMP FOR A LEAK AT THE WEEP HOLE IF THIS IS A 2.4L ENGINE
