Take the starter off and look in at the flywheel to see if the teeth are in good shape if not the fly wheel needs replaced...if they are in good shape then the solinoid may be bad on the starter...take it to a electric motor shop they will likely test it for free

Wont start

You don't mention whether the engine is turning or not. If the starter is going, but the motor not turning, the starter clutch is gone. If the motor is turning, then it's a fuel or electrical problem. Try this -- take out the spark plug.Try this in the shade of a dark corner of a garage. With it still connected to the lead, hold the base of the plug against the engine while you activate the starter. If you see a spark, the electrics are is good. Shining a flashlight in the spark plug hole will show you if the piston is going up and down or not. If not, get the starter clutch replaced.

XV1100 Starter does not engage when trinig to start engin

sorry didn't actually see the post before my first comment, if it is only when the bike is warm or hot but not over heated I would suspect the same thing, faulty starter. "replace or rebuild"

Starter engages while the motor is running

Hi, William the starter drive/Bendix/clutch is a mechanical gear driven component that engages the clutch pack ring gear to turn over the engine. It has an internal mechanism that allows the gear to turn in one direction and once the engine starts allows the drive gear to free spin. If gear free spins in both directions then the drive gear has failed, it is not serviceable and needs to be replaced. Starter

The gear that the starter clutch grabs hold of has a smooth collar on the side of it that the clutch grabs a hold of. It has to be smooth (round) , not chattered , if you did not replace the gear also that is why it will not grab.

Kawasaki zzr600e wont start

If you are not getting the starter to wind after pressing the start switch check these probs.Have you checked the fuses for the ignition switch? Check all fuses. Track the wiring from switch and check all plugs and connections.  Turn ignition on and try clutch starting the bike to see if the motor will run once it is cranked over. If you need to bump it, make sure all your connections and wiring are all making good contact. You must conduct a process of ilimination in order to rectify the fault. good luck.

V star 1100 05' starting problem

Hi Bullsport,

This problem occurs on too much starter cranking i.e. the engine doesnt respond or fire up at a go.
Try to check the bike's spark plugs.
Probabley it needs a good tune up ( the bike).

Good luck.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your description could be any of 2 possibilities:
  • starter relay/solenoid; and/or
  • starter motor.
To determine which, jump the 2 big terminals of the starter relay/solenoid when starting the bike; if the motor turns, the relay/solenoid is defective; if the starter motor does not turn, the starter motor is defective (most likely the carbon brushes).

Of course other possibilities still exist, such as:
  • loose, corroded battery terminals, relay, starter terminal/connectors;
  • weak battery.
  • open, corroded fuse/fuse terminals.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy New Year.

Pls be informed that due to my current rank and rating, even a Helpful would be detrimental to my status. Should this solution not address your concern, it would be appreciated if you could just not rate this at all. Cheers.
