Try adjusting the clutch. Sounds like it won't fully disengage when the clutch is pulled in. Adjust the cable first. Make sure there is about the thickness of a quarter between the clutch cable and the perch. If it doesn't work then try adjusting it the same down at the bottom. Make sure you fully collapse the clutch cable if doing the adjustment down below first. Then once the bottom is adjusted, re adjust the cable by the perch. If that doesn't cure your problem then you need to go into the clutch itself.

SOURCE: the engine of my 2001 honda rebel cmx250c starts

The bike thinks your kickstand is down. There is a switch that is activated when the kickstand is up, that switch may be broken or bent out of position. Either fix it or bypass it by twisting the two wires together or unplugging it and jumpering the connection and you should be going in a few minutes.

Why Does my 1997 CBR900RR Fireblade not idle when the side stand is down unless I hold the clutch in

Hi, Robbiegillbi the ignition circuit cut-off system comprising of the side stand switch, clutch switch and neutral switch has the following functions:
a. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is up, but the clutch lever is not pulled.
b. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the clutch lever is pulled, but the side stand is still down.
c. It cuts the running engine when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is moved down.
Periodically check the operation of the ignition circuit cut-off system according to the following tests.
With the engine turned off:
1. Move the side stand down.
2. Make sure that the engine stop switch is set to "RUN"
3. Turn the key to "ON".
4. Shift the transmission into the neutral position.
5. Push the start switch if the engine does not start the neutral switch may be faulty.
With the engine still running:
6. Move the side stand up.
7. Keep the clutch lever pulled.
8. Shift the transmission into gear.
9. Move the side stand down if the engine does not stall you may have a faulty side stand switch.
After the engine has stalled:
10. Move the side stand up.
11. Keep the clutch lever pulled.
12. Push the start switch if the engine does not start you may have a faulty clutch switch.
This check is most reliable if performed with a warmed-up engine.

2001 Suzuki vitara clutch pedal went to the floor and wont come back up. It's like its stuck in perpetual neutral. Slave gear? Where is it.

Check the fluid level on the clutch master in the engine compartment. The clutch slave is located down on the bottom by your transmission.

2001 Honda Shadow 1100, I put the kickstand down while on slight grade, front brake on,clutch pulled on and now it will not start. riddle me this.

You may be low on fuel, and none is reaching the fuel valve, but a more likely answer is that the bike may not be properly registering that it's in neutral.
There's a safety that kills the engine if it's in gear and the side stand is down.
Triple check the neutral (put it in gear and back to neutral).
Check the side stand and clutch safety switches.

Engine shuts off when put in gear, could by kickstand switch, but could the clutch need bleeding?

Hi
Unlikely that the clutch needs bleeding unless she lurches forward when she dies
It will be side-stand, clutch or neutral lockout switches or the relay

1987 Honda rebel 250 shifting problems

make sure you have proper amount oil in your gear box, i would change it since is 1987, check the cable, over time it things tend to stretch, squeeze the clutch handle fully, check if it pulling the clutch arm fully, if its not lift fully it will be also hard to engage and disengage the gears. low oil, dirty oil gives the gear very little lubrication will also cause the problems.

Wont shift right after worming up

When the engine warms up, so does the clutch. The clutch plates may be worn and need replacing, or you can try to adjust the clutch cable. If the problem continues I would look at a possible damage to the shifter forks or the transmission gears.
