Hi, Anonymous for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix or parts inquiry. If necessary transport your vehicle to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. Cdi box, I keep blowing them after installing i get about 5 minutes and then lose spark to 2 of the 3 coils on my 2005 Yamaha Vector. Help

I had the same problem with my 2006 Vector. Blown 4 CDI units. Changed out complete wiring harness and Stator, new plugs, Carbs. We narrowed it down to the coils. They were for an RX1 (based on the part number). swapped out with OEM vector coils. installed new CDI.. Sled is running flawless now.

No Spark, No Power coming from CDI to coil

Check the wiring on the connector plugs make sure all the wires are the same color on both sides, red to red blue to blue and so on. I had the same problem After replacing a stator and just plugging it in,after two weeks a new cdi and coil i noticed there were two wires transposed.

The CDI does'nt give electricity going to sparkplug. Do I need to know the diagram for troubleshoot CDI? can I see the diagram?

If there is power into CDI but not out to coil then check that kill switch works, also check side-stand switch If OK & coils are earthed then get CDI repaired

Does cdi affect ignition in pulsar 150

yes the cdi is most importing.the starter coil supply electricity to cdi then cdi forward electricity to high tension coil,and high tension coil forward the electricity to spark plug,spark plug give more fire to piston.cdi not only supply only electricity,cdi adjust the electricity and control the power.ok?

How do i wire a honda nsr125 to the coil and what do i need

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Would depend to which coil:
  • ignition coil - green to ground & black/yellow to CDI;
  • pulser coil - blue & green/white to CDI;
  • exciter coil - black/red to CDI;
  • stator coils - 3 X yellow to rectifier/regulator combo.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Low voltage at coil on 1983 DR 250

Check for a short, or partially broken wire between CDI and coil. If your wiring is goodbetween there, check between CDI and pick up.

1986 gsxr 400.not sparking r starting

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

If somehow, the CDI could be opened up, then component level repair maybe tried. There would be 2 final transistors that actually do the switching; 1 for each coil. Offhand, it would appear that 1 of those 2 is faulty. Otherwise, replacement is the only option.

Incidentally, in some versions, a fault in the tachometer could also cause one of the CDI's output to fail.

Postback results of tests.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

No ignition changed cdi unit. still no ignition. any ideas? wayne

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

As in most bikes, the CDI is dependent on the other parts of the ignition system. Check the connection / status of the other parts:
  • terminal of the ignition coil - should have a pulsating high AC voltage from the CDI. Tested alone, the ignition coil should have 0.1 ~ 0.3 ohms from terminal to ground and 3 ~ 5 kilo ohms high voltage to ground;
  • pulser coil - should have very low pulsating AC voltage fed to the CDI. Depending on the brand would be 50 ~ 500 ohms;
  • IGN + 12 - supplied to the CDI through the Engine Stop Switch;
  • ground - ground.

Postback results of checks.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Gsxr 750 no spark how do i test cdi

I've this data from my 1986 engine!

Under the left hand side cover there are 2 2-wire connections. One with a green and a black wire, one with a blue and a yellow wire.
Use an ohmmeter at R x 100 between both wires of a connector to check the pick-up coils: resistance must be between 130 and 180 Ohms.

The values of the ignition coil resistances are:
primary coil : 3-5ohms ( set ohmmeter at R x 1 )
Secundary coil : 25.000 - 45.000 ohms ( set ohmmeter at R x 1.000 )
For a correct measurement ALL leads must be disconnected ( also the spark plug leads )

The CDI cannot be tested with a simple measurement. Suzuki dealers have a special tool to test CDI boxes.
But checking the pick-up coils and ignition coils good will indicate an defective CDI.

The wires on the CDI:
Blue: PU coil 1 ( cyl 1-4 )
Yellow: PU coil 1
Green: PU coil 2 ( cyl 2-3 )
Blue : PU coil 2
Orange/white : +12v ign coil 1-4
White : switched coil negative side ign coil 1-4
Orange/white : +12v ign coil 2-3
Blue/yellow: switched coil negative side ign coil 1-4 ( and signal to tachometer )
Blue/white : ground

Thus, you must have +12V on both Orange/white leads.
