Question about Suzuki RM 250 Motorcycles

Stator smoking getiing hot

I have a 1990 suzuki rm 250 slingshot just had full engine rebuilt. New stator. I went to go to work this morning on my bike started first kick road perfect. Loads of power tick over perfect. I pulled in to petrol station looked down and I see smoke coming from my stator. Should it do that only road for arround 5 mins.

I would check the stator to see if it's grounding out against the case first. If the stator checks ok then it might be residual just burning off.

Assuming little Johnny did not pour oil in the crank when no one was looking, you must figure that there is a bad seal on the case halves. Did you fail to use a liquid gasket when assembling the case halves? Dirt on a surface? Did you not put in new crank seals?

If able, can you " burn out" Johnny's oil by riding all day? Does more oil get in the crank? If Johnny is not the culprit then the engine will need to be torn down. The need is to find the sealing problem and then fix it.

Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part, the part is not in stock.

Look at the clutch diagram on the Babbit's site. Chances are that the "E" ring #14 was not put on the clutch rack #13 that the pinion shaft #16 engages to pull the pressure plate #8 outward, disengaging the clutch. Without the E-ring the rack can fall inside the clutch and is unable to pull the clutch plates apart. This is likely to be where the problem is. By the way, look at the sequence all the parts are to be installed in. Does your clutch assembly match that sequence? Let me know what you find.

i got a 2000 rm 250 and it used to be a cow to kick over i used to spend at least 20 min kicking to start it until i rebuilt the top end with a new piston and rings now it starts on the fourth or fifth kick if that doesnt help you need a new cpu good luck!!!!

You jetting is off on your carb. Raise the clip on the needle in the carb, if it still does it.....the it will need smaller jets.....see a motorcycle shop.Your bike is a two stroke and will smoke with oil coming out the exhaust if card is too rich. What raio do you mix your gas/oil at? Disregard the first post....he must think its a four stroke engine.

Yes. you may need to make some engine mounts to fit the new engine to the old frame, but you will also need to transfer the electrical harness from the RM to the TS chassis.

My rm 250 has no spark i have change the stator,cdi box and coil but still no spark

check your plug is the correct spec it should be an NGK BR8EG or compatible.

My Rm 250 wont spark need to know the volts from stator to cdi plug. Got brand new cdi, stator , rotor and pick up coil but it still wont spark.

The Voltage From The Stator To The CDI Should Be Around 40 Volts(AC) At Cranking Speed. Be Sure Your Meter Is Set For (AC) Not (DC). The CDI Changes The (AC) Input Voltage To (DC) Output Voltage To The Primary Terminal At The Coil. An Electrical Shock Hazard Exist If Stator Voltage Is Checked With Engine Running. Always Perform This Test At Cranking Speed (R.P.M.) For SAFETY. 120 Volts (AC) Can Be Present With Engine Running.

Where are timing marks on 1985 suzuki rm 250

This is taken verbatim from the Clymer's manual for 81 - 88 rm 125 - 250's. "The ignitiion timing is preset and does not need periodic adjustment. The timing should only need to be checked if the stator assembly has been removed for engine repair or ignition repair." If you did install a new stator, the manual has a picture which shows the rib of the case aligned approximately in the middle of the stator timing mark.If you're still unsure, I would invest in a manual as "If the stator timing mark and the rib are not aligned, ignition timing will be incorrect. Incorrect timing can easily cause serious engine damange as well as lack of performance."

Hot starter

4 stroke engines require a leaner than normal fuel/air mixture to start when hot. The cold start choke allows more fuel into the mix. The hot start choke allows more air into the mix.
