When radio is turned on ,it is already muted. When this happens the clock cannot be set or station changed. My son says he thinks there is cracked board or failed resistor or the like.

BLAUPUNKT radio mute and volume haywire

yea the got a short somewhere. Horn fuse might or might not work something with the radio. I would say start with the horn. The horn is a controlled short sometimes shorts it self out. Open your steering wheel and work from there. For your radio look at all the fuses that you know work the radio and go from there. What kinda car is it year things like that would help because if it older wires, fuses, fusible links things like that go bad over the years. Especially if you run a lot of power through the wires that was made for that kinda power like upgraded speakers, headunit (radio) amps things like that. Older cars and trucks are make with cheap radio wires. hope this helps

I have a 96 goldwing that the mute is on and wont turn off the radio only goes half as load .

The mute isn't supposed to turn off the radio just decrease the volume. you should have a knob on your radio to adjust how low the mute takes the volumebut like i said it won't completely "mute the radio".

The Skyfi3 receiver will "self-mute". Is the mute frequency the same as other phone devices or TV remote controllers? I have the Skyfi3 in the kitchen, could an appliance cause this?

Yes, if you mean XM reception. Your microwave oven is actually a radio transmitter near the Satellite Radio frequencies and when you use your microwave, it WILL wipe-out XM radios. Even my neighbor can do it to mine! Check it out - boil some water and watch your signal fade in and out! You're going to want to move the radio, or use a 'repeater' for it, or use the playback of prerecorded.

1991 318is radio is mute

if the radio is constantly on mute then it could be the telephone mute wire on the radio harness. The mute function works when the mute wire is sent to ground so it could be that the cable insulation has rubbed off and now touching a ground (cars body etc)
