    No I did not check if there was current coming from the live wire of the coil. What is the best way to check that? I don't have an ohm meter, or volt meter yet. I know some have different settings. How do i know what setting to put it on? Do I check for any activity at all or does it have to be a certain amount, and once again am I looking for ohm's, volts, amps, or what?

    (I did buy a service manual, it'll be here in a week i would guess, maybe more.)

Use a ohm meter see that the cdi box is getting a signal from the pulse generator or take the cdi box to a derler and have it checked

Bike sat for a year or so....clean tank and carb...had no spark traced it back to coil has sparc now..but seems im not recieving and gas in carb....fuel line is on

After anything with a carburator sits for a while you need to clean the carb. Your problem is likely because of clogged jets. Inside the carb is little tubes and things that look like hollow needles. Clean those out and make sure the fuel filter gets replaced. I had the same problem when my 78 honda sat for a year.

I just got a 98 ninja 250. It sat for the last 6 months to a year but ran well before it was parked I'm told. Now it wont stay running without the choke on. Any ideas?

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The carbs would need to be pulled down, soaked in cleaner and thoroughly cleaned specially the idling jets. The air filter would also require attention, either check/clean or replace. Of course the gas has to be replaced, the tank checked/cleaned with attention to the fuel filter/petc0ck assembly. Check the fuel hoses and the vacuum line for signs of cracks, split ends.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Can I just soak carbs, or do they need rebuilding?

Hi there
You will need to fully strip down the carbys to give them a good clean.
This will let you see if corrosion has set in.
Remove all the jets and clean, then blow through all the jets and holes in the carby bodys to see that everything is clear and not blocked.
You should remove the slides and needles and the jet that the needles go into(emulshion tubes). These have tiny holes in them that block easily so make sure they are clean.
Also remove the mixture screws. Then once you've blown out the holes(orrafices)replace them and set to 1.5 turns out.
You will need a pair of vacume gagues to set the sync(if the sync is out)

I have a 1974 dt 250 same as an dt 360 the bike has sat in a barn about 4 yrs it will not start removed and cleaned the gas tank went thur the carb new plug used ignition coil compression about 50 to 75...

Compression is too low!

Replace the piston rings.

Also check continuity from engine to frame till high-tension coil...
Check if breaker points aren't dirty ( clean out with fine sandpaper )
Check breakerpoint settings

94 intruder 1400 wont start

Ok you have done all that is needed so far but as I understand you are saying that it is trying to turn over? How fast does it turn over? And do you have spark? Test the plugs by pulling one of them out at a time and grounding it to the engine and try turn the engine over a couple secounds while looking at the plugs. You should have a bright blue spark form all plugs. If you are needing any more help let me know.

My 98 ninja turns over but no spark.

Bad contacts on the battery posts from corrosion can rob the spark of 40% of its power on start. Make sure the battery is fresh with a good overnight charge and make sure the posts are really clean. You may also have a bad voltage regulator. I keep a spare in the garage so I can swap out a part I think might be bad. 11 years on the old one could mean time for a change....

2006 Kawasaki Ninja 250 will not start

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your post "engine will not turn start", are you referring to the starter motor not turning or is it cranking but will not run?
  • if no crank, check the starter relay;
  • will not run, verify that there is spark at the end of the plugs;
  • will not tun, verify that there is fuel in the bowl of the carb (drain again);
  • if it has a fuel valve, set to PRI.
Incidentally, any clicking sound when you press START? Pls postback updates.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
