Yes the starter solenoids and other mechanisms can stick. You can try spraying(about 2-4 seconds) the starter around the front of the shaft with wd40 and it may free it up but if not remove the starter and clean it out, lightly lube the shafts and put it back together. Be careful not to lose parts like shims etc when taking it apart. If you are not mechanically inclined then spraying it with wd40 would be the best option.

I love my R1150RT. It is smooth, it has a lot more lug at lower RPM than the older modles (2003 and before models with 1 spark plug). The modifications with 2 spark plugs have cured all the surging. Should you want a smooth, reliable, comfortable and high speed touring bike, I would sauggest this bike is the best.

SOURCE: 85 bmw starter does not engage it goes zing

probably find that the dog clutch on the end of the starter has given up the ghost, failing that, bmws are critical on the grade of oil used and if you have used a mineral rather than synthetic oil the dog clutch will be gummed up with deposits, sometimes a hot engine flush and new oil(synthetic)will fix it,hope this helps

SOURCE: Hello, My 1999 BMW RT 1100

depends. if anything that loose is not so good.but some brake are design to have something loose.u can check your brake sometime there is a bolt holding your brake calliper ,cover /wrapped with a small rubber tube or washer.because some brakes there is a gap and allow your brake calliper to move a little when it brake for full brake performance.

Try make a carburation air/fuel regulation...maybe the moisture is too poor. And can need valves regulation, too.

1100 backfire my rt was running perfectly it went for service at bmw agent since then it idles rough and backfires on overunhave they messed with my engine management progam

Hi, Louis and the usual suspects are:

1. A severely drained battery.

2. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.

3. Faulty main circuit breaker and or connections.

4. Faulty ignition coil and or connections.

5. Faulty spark plug, oil or gas fouled, wrong heat range or service type, wrong gap, loose in the cylinder head, broken electrode or insulator.

6. Faulty spark plug cables, leaking or broken, internal damage.

7. Faulty ignition module, switch, CKP, MAP, CMP, sensor and or any connector in the ignition circuit could have corroded, loose, or broken pins/sockets

8. Burnt exhaust valve or air leak in the exhaust system.

Hi, Anonymous for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. Brake light quit working on my 97 R 1100 RT. Fuse is good and neither front brake or rear brake action will allow the rear brake lights to come on. Does the brake light route through the flasher relay?...

I thought the brake light has its own feed from the battery as the brake light works with or without ignition on mine. Maybe a blown fuse or poor earth. Check for 12 volts on the switches.

Could be your timing chains are very loose, they will make a noise on start up. Also, when was the last time you adjusted the valves? If they are way out of adjustment, ( on the lose side) they will make some noise.
