SOURCE: timeing a yamaha 175 enduro

Without the year of the bike I am hampered. Lets assume it is an older bike and has a set of ignition points and not a CDI model.
.
Pull the cover off the shifter side of the engine. Remove the spark plug then turn the flywheel so you can see the points. Oil on them? Dirt, or rust? Next check the main bearing. Do not rotate the flywheel but instead hold the flywheel firmly and lift it up and down, left and right. Was there any movement or was the flywheel rock solid?
.
I am willing to bet that the points were dirty and there was a lot of play in the crank bearings. If so, you will need new crank bearings and seals plus new points and condenser. The engine needs to tear down into about 75 parts in order to replace the bearings. The job requires some special tools to remove the flywheel and clutch, plus a crankcase separator the split the gearbox.
.
This is not a job for the beginner. I suggest you have the shop do the work and also that you spring for 3 more bearings and seals plus a fresh cylinder bore, new piston and rings and a new spark plug. You now have a brand new engine that should run well and last for many years. Please rate this solution. Thanks

My 1979 yamaha 175 enduro starts, but goes backwards when put in gear. Is the final drive gear in backward, and if so, how do I turn it around? which one is it?

Hi, Dave it has nothing to do with the transmission your ignition timing is off a few degrees and allowing your engine to fire up and run "BACKWARDS" it's a 2 stroke what can I say.

I want to wire up a ct1 175 enduro yamaha to only have a headlight , and the ignition was missing when I got it ...... Where do I put the kill switch ? Before the coil ? And , can you tell me where ea

1. The can looking thing should be a oldtime flasher and can be gotten rid of.
2. The ignition kill switch should be grounding the point set (it should have points on that model). Find the wire that comes from the point set on the engine (should be under the flywheel but the flywheel does not need to be taken off to see it or find it).
3. headlight - if all the wires are still in place on the bike, connect the battery up and turn the key to the second position (which is the headlight) , probe the wires(with a voltmeter)coming off the ignition switch until a wire is found with battery voltage (should be 6 volts). The wire should only have the 6 volts when the switch is in the second postion; connect that wire to either the high or low beam side of the headlight and it will give you a light.
4. Also if you should video again and add things like wire colors, showing the handle bar switches, ignition switch and all related parts, it will be easier to give more information about what you are trying to do.

Hi, Stevea623 probably but the real answer to this question is way above my pay grade for this situation, I would call or visit my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry.

Hi, Mble375 for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your problem. 1974 Yamaha 125 Enduro will not start has no power

Hi, Madelene before testing any electrical component in the Starting System it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand, clutch, neutral safety switch.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid, starter have failed or circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
14. Check for engine trouble codes.

1971 yamaha 175 motorcycle electrical problem

ill do a list of things that can help or be the problem.

1) Pull the coil off and wire brush down all the bare metal. then do the same to the frame where it bolted on. Make sure there is a grounded wire that bolts back onto the coil if there was one, Replace the wire end for the ground peice.

2) Pull off the spark end cap and cut the wire down a few mm until you see new wire then screw it back on. (if its NGK)

3) follow the wire from the kill switch and make sure it isnt grounding out.

4) Hotwire - find the kill switch and unplug it. if this doesnt help unplug the ignition key wiring. on older bikes it will work for ignition but not lights for the key part. if this helps you need a new Ignition barrel / Kill switch.

5) check your wiring harness make sure it isnt grounding anywhere exept where its ment to.

6) make your your engine to CDI is plugged in and has no oxide in it

7) try and find somone with a running bike the same as yours and borrow there CDI, if this helps you need to buy a new CDI or check yours for wiring shorts.

hope this helps if not buzz me (skuly@Hotmail.com)

Yamaha dt 175, voltage question. When idling, my DT measures 7 volts across the battery terminals. When revved it jumps up to over 13 volts. This is a six volt bike. I know the battery is completely shot....

You need new regulator and new battery. The battery works as a filter as well.If it is in bad condition it does not filter anything and in high rpm the current is very high.
