What is the stator on a motorcycle

The stator is the alternator as you would know it on a car. It is part of the charging system which consists of the battery, stator and a voltage regulator/rectifier.

Alternating current is generated by the stator and rectified to direct current. The voltage regulator then maintains the voltage to the battery and provides power for additional electrical loads, such as the lights and ignition system, at a constant voltage regardless of variations in engine speed.

Where`s the rectifier/regulator located on a 2000 yamaha v star classic

I cannot give the exact location but you should look for plug that has three white wires, one black and one red wire running from the stator coil, which runs off the crank, and the battery, which the red wire runs to. With that in mind since there is not a lot of room on that style of bike, I would look under the seat area.

How do you take the stator cover off of a 1997 kawasaki vulcan classic ?

not sure of this exact model but there will be a cover on the opposite side of your clutch, i do believe that this stator is bolted right into the stator but if its not it should be self explanitory once you get the cover off
