SOURCE: N.Z. Yamaha FZ6S Headlights

There is a genuine reason why this is the standard setup for this bike. At night, the dual-headlight of the bike can appear to other motorists that you are in a car at a much greater distance than is actual. As you can imagine, this might result in someone pulling out in front of you, completely unaware that you are bearing down on them at a short distance. So, for safety reasons, only a single beam is lit when using dipped/low beam.

However, if you accept the risk above, you can do what is known as the 'dual headlight mod'. There are 2 accepted methods for this.

The first method simply requires bridging the 2-pin connector (H7 bulb) to the spare on the 3-pin connector (H4 bulb). Instructions have been posted by ‘Gand’ at the following link:

http://solsar.com/fz6/headlight.htm

The second method is more complex, and requires a decent knowledge of auto-electrics, as you have to remove various components of the bike just to get to the wiring loom. Sorry, I've lost the link for this, but you might be able to find the instructions by searching for 'FZ6 dual headlight mod'.

Note: it differs from country to country, but in the UK (for example), the dual headlight mod will result in an immediate MOT failure. Therefore, you will need to remember to disconnect the mod prior to MOT inspection.

SOURCE: Sparks from wire leading to ignition coil.

Is the coil properly grounded, sounds like its finding an alternative ground, make sure the metal of the coil where it is bolted to the frame makes good electrical contact with the frame, unbolt it and clean up the metal on the frame and coil with emery paper, dab grease on the metal contact of the coil and bolt it back to the frame - see if the problem persists.

I have a 2000 Mitsubishi mirage and my left turn signal on the rear stays on when I switch the head lights on I switch out all the bulbs and put a new, headlight -turn signal switch combo on so what else...

It sounds like a bad earth connection in the vehicle rear wiring loom. If you have a multimeter test for continuity of the earth wires with the globes removed to prevent any false readings. Check the earth wire that runs from the all the globe sockets in the left hand light unit and any connector blocks in the wiring loom near the light assemblies as well as where the earth wire is attached to the body. If necessary, remove, clean thoroughly by removing any corrosion or paint and re-attach securely.

Sounds like a bad Earth connection. Check for a poor/loose Earth wire bolt inside the engine bay near the head lights. Also check any of the plastic block connectors in the wiring loom for the head lights. Sometimes the metal spade connections are not secured properly within the plastic block and can be pushed back when the plastic blocks are joined together.

Electrical problems with ignition on 1989 virago xv1100

Hi, Rj0203 the ignition circuit cut-off system comprising of the side stand switch, clutch switch and neutral switch has the following functions:
a. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is up, but the clutch lever is not pulled.
b. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the clutch lever is pulled, but the side stand is still down.
c. It cuts the running engine when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is moved down.
Periodically check the operation of the ignition circuit cut-off system according to the following tests.
With the engine turned off:
1. Move the side stand down.
2. Make sure that the engine stop switch is set to "RUN"
3. Turn the key to "ON".
4. Shift the transmission into the neutral position.
5. Push the start switch if the engine does not start the neutral switch may be faulty.
With the engine still running:
6. Move the side stand up.
7. Keep the clutch lever pulled.
8. Shift the transmission into gear.
9. Move the side stand down if the engine does not stall you may have a faulty side stand switch.
After the engine has stalled:
10. Move the side stand up.
11. Keep the clutch lever pulled.
12. Push the start switch if the engine does not start you may have a faulty clutch switch.
This check is most reliable if performed with a warmed-up engine.

Hi, I have a honda 2004 VTX 1300S That will not start unless I turn the bars all the way to the left and then hold the started button in and then start turning the bars to the right and when it gets about...

You may have a break in the wiring loom around where it passes the steering yokes.
Turning slightly re-connects the break.
Try opening the grip switch unit to test the wire from the start switch to the solenoid, and from the switch to fuse/ignition/battery.
Could also just be a bad connection in the swutch unit.

Tow bar trailer socket wiring connection point to car wiring?

The connectors for towing wire harnesses on foresters are generally on the passenger side, below the rear taillight inside the cargo space. some require pulling up the foam block that is between the spare tire compartment and the taillight. Check where you replace the tailights from inside the car, if there isn't a matching connector hanging out there, check around the spare tire compartment, see if you can remove the carpeted foam block next to the compartment and find the plug under there.
