Wow i did not know they sell starter drives any more. With starter off engine remove the two bolts that hold front bushing on the motor then remove the single bolt from solenoid to motor barrel remove barrel then armature can come out Now you will see a ring spacer that is lifted one side it faces the metal ring cover remove and tap cover back remove wire ring replace starter drive put ring on with pliers squeeze cover over wire and install last ring spacer and reassemble starter.

1998 gmc jimmy will not turn over

Sounds like you may have a faulty starter solenoid or the bendix inside the starter are worn.Have someone try to start it while someone else taps on the center of the starter with a hammer and if it starts its bendix which means you will need a new starter but, if nothing happens then i would think its the starter solenoid that is faulty.

STARTER SPINNING VERY FAST,HOWEVER ENGINE WILL NOT FIRE OR START 1998 GMC 1500

if the starter is spinning very fast, that is a clue that the gear on the starter is not engaging with the ring gear on the flywheel. so either the bendix is not moving the starter gear over to engage or there are a bunch of missing teeth on the ring gear. hope it is the first, way cheaper and easier to fix than the second

No power any were no inside lights, no dash lights, no ingition lights when key is turned, Engine won't turn over. Battery is good, Before reaching this condition was running very ruff. I heard a pop...

i would check out the positive battery cable that runs to the starter, also , check all of the wires that are at the starter , to make sure that they are not loose, torn, burnt, ot frayed.

Replace starter in 1994 gmc safari van

  1. dissconnect the negitive battery terminal.
  2. raise van and support with stands.
  3. remove the two bolts on the starter and pull it out and down,
  4. the starter dropped as far as it will go this way you have room to remove the wires from the starter.
  5. reverse directions to install new one, NOTE; if more room is needed you will have to remove the metal flywheel cover, hope this is helpful.

Once in a while my 2003 gmc safari will not start. i turn the key, here a click but engine will not crank. I wait for a while then starts normally. van has only 35,000 miles. could starter be bad already?

Could be bad starter. Miles don't matter, only how many times you start the car. I would first check for corroded or loose connections between battery and starter solenoid..
