SOURCE: vstar 1100 yamaha will not idle, only runs with full choke

You will most likely find that your Air Cleaner element is blocked & possibly may have sucked up some leaves reducing air flow.

SOURCE: 2000 yamaha vstar 1100 custom. starter problem?

I had the same problem 2001 XVS1100 Custom
this is a starter issue Over time the starter on this bike twists when its under a load.
Look at the two bolts holding the starter on if they are not straight across then its twisted. turn starter back in line with a pair of big channel locks and try to start this should do the trick if this works i would recommend taking the two bolts out and bend them back straight or replace and reinstall starter this should fixya problem

Hope this helps ...............Jimmyfixya

SOURCE: 2006 Yamaha Vstar custom starter issue

The one way clutch that engages the starter motor to the flywheel is chattered or damaged and needs to be replaced. The starter motor turns a small gear that is connected to a large gear by a small chain. On the side of the big gear is a smooth machined surface that the one way clutch grabs when the starter is engaged. The surface is chattered and the three grabber rollers wont jam or grab on the surface unless it is smooth therefore the starter spins but the motor does not. You will probably have to replace the large gear and possibly the three rollers also.

SOURCE: Why does my Yamaha 1100 Vstar die when you put it

There is a switch on the kickstand that is supposed to shut the motor off if the kickstand is left down and the bike is put in gear. It's a safety device that's a bit annoying - especially when it malfunctions. My guess is that this switch is electrically or mechanically stuck so it thinks the kickstand is down. It's a fairly common problem. Mess with the plunger a little - it might free up but ultimately you might just want to replace the switch if it is in fact the switch causing the problem. I hope this helped!

Starter relay buzzing on vstar 1100 '01 bike won't start

Hook a jumper cable from the negative battery post to any grounding point on the starter and try starting. If it starts then the problem is in your ground. Remove and clean both ends of the cable as well as the spot they connect to. Reinstall ground cable and try starting. Hope this helps

I have a 2002 Yamaha Vstar Classic with a good

Twisted bolts on the starter are never a good thing. There is also a one-way starter clutch on the crank behind the flywheel that can be damaged. If it engages intermittently, it's on its way out. Both the starter and starter clutch are prone to failure on VStars... and neither are cheap to fix. Hopefully your bike is still under warranty.
