Rpm counter hi my renualt megane scenic 1999 16ltr.my rpm counter is saying 1750 rpm wen i am driving at 30mph in 4th gear but i was told it should be 1500rpm is this wright if it is wrong what could be the problem i checked the tyers and drive the car properly throu the gears i look forword to your reply thank you

This sounds like you have a pressure fault, these gearboxes suffer from pressure solonoid failure, take the car to your dealer and have it scanned, this will show the fault, it is not an expensive job, but if left it can turn into one.

this exact problem on a megane coupe is caused by a small air pipe that connects to a 2 inch wide black box that is located under the bonnet near the windscreen on the passangers side. the zigzag light indicates an electrical fault (in this case lack of compression and will affect your revs) if you find this pipe and it has snapped off. the reason for this may be that your engien is lose and moves. grab the engien with 2 hands and see if you can wobble it with allot of play. if so your engien mountings need replaceing. you may also experiance juddering in low gears
