My pontiac grand am gt 2002 will not start its not the battery because i got a new one and all my lites on dashboard works and radio the security system lite stays on what could be wrong? And when tryn to start it does not make no sound and sometimes it does start but i have to hold a lil longer to start lik something is tryn to catch

as you face the engine the thermostat bell is on the right (drivers side) Follow the radiatoe hose. Remove the two bolts and raise the bell still attatched to the hose. the thermostat is there with the rubber seal. You can gently pry the thermostat out with a screwdriver or something similar. Put in new thermostat be sure it is the same as the old one, and then replace or change the seal (be sure it is the smae size and thickness as the old one as I got the wrong size from Napa) Then replace the bell, and tighten, but not over tighten. Hello! The problem you are experiencing is most likely due to a fautly or malfunctioning alternator. You can take the car to any major auto parts store, and they can do a FREE charging system test which will tell you if your alternator is operating (and charging the battery) properly, as well as if your battery is accepting the incoming charge from the alternator.
