Re: Hi had my FZS00 (1999) for about a year. Its done...
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
With the indulgence of goofduck...
If what you are referring to as "it wont start" means it will not crank, then it would be either as what goofduck posted or the starter relay. On the next instance of it will not start:
- locate the starter relay (follow the + cable from the battery);
- Press on the start button, there should be an audible click;
- While still pressing on the start button, short with a wrench the 2 big terminals underneath the rubber cap (on the nuts not on the threaded portions).
Results:
- if there is no click when pressing on the start button, either the relay is faulty or the interlocks (most likely) or the start button (less likely) are faulty;
- if the starter motor would engage, then the starter relay is faulty, more specifically the high current contacts;
- if the starter motor will not engage, then the motor would be faulty.
Would appreciate a postback on results of tests or updates on any developments.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
Thanks guys. Thing is is happens really infrequently, so may be weeks before it happens again!!!! Yesterday I stopped for petrol, then it wouldnt start (there was clicks when start button pressed) a mate pushed me in 2nd to start it up, then I continued for a few miles, and it completely cut out at a T-junction. completely dead no clicking with start button this time. Bumped it again, rode home 10 miles. parked up and it restarted fine.
possibly a bad spot in the starter or possibly the start button is going out
