I have 1998 ford expedtion runs rough pipes get red hot. took pipes loose. no power still. put new plugs no luck please help!

It takes a lot of heat to make the exhaust pipes get hot enough to glow red. It is a dangerous condition and can lead to a vehicle fire. A clogged catalytic converter or manifold could cause this, but ultimately the heat from the exhaust fumes is not exiting the system properly. Even a clogged tail pipe could cause this. A vandal might have stuck something in the end of the tail pipe.
It is running rough because it cannot push the exhaust out and therefore cannot take in enough air.
Regardless of the cause, have this inspected and the blockage/clog removed repaired and do not continue to drive the vehicle with this condition.

2000 camry le smells hot but have coolant and oil... what else could smell hot?

it can be the padding on the exhaust pipe. after awhile it will smell, then you will get a rattle on the exhaust pipe as the padding for the shield as fallen out or burnt away.

Why is that the exhaust gets very hot?

well short note, ignition of gases, spark, goes out thru the exhaust pipes, producing heat, pipes are made of steel, heat then makes pipes hot all the way back thru muffler

What type of noise do you hear if flex pipe on exhaust goes bad

Like any exhaust leak, it will be noisier. When the car is started, and before the exhaust gets too hot, put your hand along the pipe and feel for exhaust air being pushed out. You don't have to touch it, just feel close for an exhaust leak. If it's leaking, you should feel it.

How do i find out out where my exhaust leak is its all i can smell in my car i think it coming through the vents?

Do what they do at Midas/Monro/Meineke: listen, look and (carefully) feel. Let the sound guide you to the general area, then look for a hole/holes, and if none are seen, hold your hand close to, but not touching, the hot exhaust pipe(s), feeling for the rush of hot exhaust gases. Since you may not have a lift like these commercial outfits, or a handy trench to stand in (like JiffyLube) you'll have to jack up the car by at least two of its four jacking points to fully examine the length of your exhaust system.
Since you suspect exhaust intrusion into the cabin through the dashboard vents, you may choose to begin your exhaust system inspection at the exhaust manifold, which collects exhaust from each of the cylinders and conducts it to a single pipe leading to the catalytic converter.

Water is coming out from my tail exhaust pipe Ford Expedition 2003 4X4

When gasoline is burnt the products are carbon dioxide and water:- 2C8H18 (gasoline) + 25O2 (air) ----------> 18H2O (water) + 16CO2 (carbon dioxide) If you take short trips the water content will condense in the cold exhaust pipe and collect in the muffler boxes (silencers). At a certain point the water will fill the mufflers, overflow and begin to dribble out of the exhaust tail pipe. It is worthwhile to occasionally give your car a longer run to allow the exhaust to become sufficiently hot and to evaporate all the collected water. The water is acidic and hastens the corrosion of the exhaust pipes.

How to change an exhaust on a ford focus 1.6 16 v

there are rubber mounting underneath the car, remove there.

follow the exhaust pipe to the engine, loosening any bolts and nuts holding the exhaust in place.

the exhaust pipe meets the exhaust manifold close to the engine. loosen it there and replace,

the part remaining on the engine (also a much thicker pipe than the pipe) is the exhaust manifold. this must the loosened at the engine itself. normally two nuts per cylinder and your car being 4 cylinder its 8 nuts.

There nuts can be dreadfully tight though, it gets hot there so the expansion and cooling of of the studs and nuts tend to make them tighter over time
