Yamaha tt600e 1997 bed spark plug caps

Check battery voltage, remove spark plug suppressor cap from HT lead and see if spark is good by holding lead in a gloved hand and placing the lead end near the engine. If spark good get a new suppressor cap. Check the plug shows a good spark in the new cap by holding the screw thread to the engine. Poor spark change spark plug. If you get a poor spark from the HT lead then get the ignition coil checked.

Sounds like the spark plugs are not firing to burn the fuel. Check to make sure all spark plugs and wires are in good condition (not torn or have a bunch of "white stuff" the white stuff is from the plug wires grounding out on something metal and not delivering the electrical signal to the spark plug.
Then follow the plug wires to the distributor and ensure all is clean and in good shape. You can also unlatch the distributor cap and clean the 8 metal contacts inside the cap.
If it will start a easy thing to check is your timing. Need a timing light but if it is a 5.7L GM 350 small block I believe timing is 8 degrees from TDC (Top Dead Center)

Problem could be a few different things. Not sure on all the ignition parts on that bike, but could be a bad sparkplug cap, wire, coil or magneto. My recommendation would be to first take the spark plug cap off. Trim a bit off the wire and put the cap back on. Over time spark plug caps move quite a bit and wear out the wire inside cause a weak connection.

MT EXPERIANCE WITH YAMAHAS IS GOING TO MAKE ME SAY CDI IS BAD.

ONE WAY OF QUICKLY CHECKING THIS IS KICK IT ARE TRY TURNING THE ENGINE OVER WITH THE STARTER..NOW IT WILL HAVE TO TURN OVER QUICKLY SO IF THE BATTERY IS DOWN USE THE KICK STARTER.AS YOU ARE DOING THIS TURN THE KILL SWITCH ARE THE BUTTON OFF AND ON IF GIVES YOU A SPARK MOST LIKELY IT'S THE CDI. NOW IT WILL NOT SPARK EVERY TIME WHEN YOU ARE TRYING THIS

**CAUTION** I HAVE SEEN THE PLUGS THAT CONNECT TO THE CDI BE BAD SO DO A CONTNUITY TEST ON THE CONNECTIONS GOING TO THE CDI AND ANY OTHER ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

**CAUATION** BAD SPARK PLUG CAPS YOU CAN ACTUALLY SCREW THE PLUG INTO THE COIL WIRE IT'S SELF.TO TEST THAT

GET A GOOD 12 VOLT TEST LIGHT AND FIRST TEST YOUR FIELDS COMING UP FROM YOUR FLYWHEEL AREA.YOU CAN GET THE LIGHT TO LIGHT UP THEN YOU HAVE YOUR MAIN POWER SUPPLY DELIVERING.NEXT CHECK TO SEE IF YOU ARE GETTING 12 VOLTS TO YOUR COIL.MAKE SURE YOUR BATTERY IS IN GOOD SHAPE ALSO.

NOW TO TEST THE COIL I CAN NOT GO INTO HOW TO BENCH TEST IT NOW.THE FIRST THING IS TO LOOK VERY GOOD TO SEE IF ANY OIL IS LEAKING FROM IT.LOOK GOOD IT WILL BE VERY LIGHT.IF SO YOU WILL END UP HAVING TO REPLACE IT.HOWEVER YOU MAY STILL BE ABLE TO GET A LITTLE SPARK TO THE PLUG.

REMEBER IT SHOULD MAKE A GOOD SNAPING SOUND AND A BLUE ARC.,ORANGE ARE REDISH WILL NOT DUE.
