Went From dual Air to single air intake. started running rough few months after. rejetted the carbs to stage 3. still runnin terrible. spits sputters acts like has no power when going. 2007 honda shadow spirit 750 dc

Most modern motorcycles don't like to have their air boxes changed. As they are set up at the factory to run with a particular amount of air. Changing from dual to single, you are actually reducing the amount of air to the bike not increasing it. Increasing the jets will only add to the problem, because you are allowing more fuel in to the bike. It already has a fuel issue.

SOURCE: 2003 honda shadow spirit vt750 carbs

It is different then most other carbs. DON"T DRILL ANY BRASS HEADS LOOKING FOR THE AIR FUEL MIXTURE. The air fuel mixture is the only adjustment you can make. It is located on the bottom side of the air intake, right behind the air filter box. It looks like a 1/4" flat metal plug. Do NOT drill this. There is no slot for a screw driver. There is a tool which is no more then a small piece of pipe that fits over this plug and you turn it in till seated, gently. Count the turns. Back out to 2 and a half turns, thats normal. Or if you no that you need more fuel injected, simply turn the screw OUT 1/4 or 1/2 turn and try it. GOOD LUCK (Its not hard)
There is no drilling to be done. Hope i didnt scew something up on mine......

Hello my cpi Aragon GP 125. Model 2012 when been on a run sometimes the carb spits petrol back through the air filter.l have to disconnect the air filter to empty it, then it will start again.??


Hi, Bryan spitting is usually caused by a faulty accelerator pump and or nozzle, or the float bowl needle and seat leaking and overflowing through the main jet mixing well nozzle, or the air-fuel mixture screw is set to lean. Troybilt snowblower starts runs good for 20seconds as soon as you are in heavier snow runs rough and backfires and sputter, just put on a new carburator, still doing the same


Hi Janice,
Sorry to hear you are having problems. If this is a 2-stage snowblower, they typically have a carb box that covers them. I would try running it without this, not as a permanent fix, but just to see if the blower performs better in the heavier snow. If it does, than it may be that the carb is in need of more air and might need an adjustment. If this is a single stage snowblower, then the carb still may need an adjustment. Not all carbs are adjustable and I know you said you just got a new one, but depending on how old a unit this is, it could be the problem. If you want to provide model/serial number of the engine, i can try to find it and see what kind of carb it is using.

maybe need to put a full kit through carb. and replace few worn parts ie. float needle and seat. throttle needle and seat etc

Hi David, popping, coughing, spitting, or backfiring through the carburator or induction module can be caused by air getting sucked in combustion chamber do bad intake seals leaking. Leaking exhaust gaskets can also be suspect. Remove air cleaner and backing plate, while engine is idling spray WD-40 or Brake Kleen around intake manifold to head area, if RPM's increase you have an intake leak and seals need to be replaced, also spark plugs will be burning whiter than normal. Backfires thru carb.spits and hesitates


have you add anything or adjusted anything? spray some soapy water at the intake seals while the bike is running (idling) if the idle changes you have intake seal leak and if you have added an new air filter other than stock you may be running to lean and need to rejet

My 01 zx6r sputters in the upper gears. Runs like a champ in the lower 3. I have replaced air and fuel filters, checked all air intake and cleaned carbs.


purchase a can of Seafoamfrom Autozone$10 pour in 1/3 can to two gallons gas get on it right away and get it to speed a few times...it took me 10 miles before my hesitation problem went away. did you check or replace your plugs yet? plugs are only good for about 7/8000 miles.

Spitting and sputtering


mine did the same, I found out that the high speed jet was clogged, I pulled the fuel line off the filtor(going to the carb), stuck the line into a mixture of half gas half carb cleaner, I fanned it up and in 2 or 3 minutes it started running well, hope this helps.
