Question about 2003 Gas Gas Pampera 280

1 Answer

Changed rear brake line from the reservoir to the ABS unit (hole in line from rubbing against clutch cable) on '08 HD Electra Glide. Installed new line. Bled the unit, have brakes, but when hard braking there's a loud click and don't believe have full pedal. If release the pedal and apply hard again, same loud click. Is there still air in the ABS unit; manual say's Harley has to hook the unit to a machine to get all the air out. Pads were recently changed prior to the line issue.

ABS units are tricky things, unless you know what you are doing your best bet is to leave it to the professionals. Yes you'll have to take it to your bike shop to have them bleed it correctly now.

SOURCE: Hi there, I have a 2001

Hi, spongy brakes is usually from air in the system, only in really old bikes and poor quality brake lines will cause spongy breaks where the brake lines expand instead of full pressure being applied to the brake pads, very rarely will the brake pads cause spongy brakes (unless over heated), once you get rid of the sponginess you will get strong braking. Bleed your front brake system taking care not to let the master cylinder run out of fluid, this is the easiest and cheapest start, once all the air is out then you can work your way through, another good way of testing your braking system, but you need to be very careful doing this and make sure your brake lines are not hard or brittle, you can squeeze the brake line at certain spots (using a pair of brake line pliers), eg. squeeze after the master cylinder. if brakes spongy than your master cylinder needs attention, if brakes hard than your problem is further down the line, calipers etc. Hope this helps.

No rear brakes on hd Electra glide, happened suddenly on a ride

Check the fluid level first. Is there any sign of a fluid leakage anywhere??? Is there any sign of a pinched line anywhere??
Are there still friction materials on the pads??? Not so likely but have the brake disc fasteners come out or sheared???? If the pedal is pumped do the pads move against the disc, if not likely one of the above or the master cylinder is defective. Also male sure the pedal linkage is atttached to and operating the master cylinder.

Rear break light switch 08 street glide

right side of bike, bottom of frame near the rear cylinder exhaust pipe you will see a switch with 2 wires attached to it. Takes to wrenches to take off. one to hold the bracket and on one for the brake switch. remove and install new switch. you will need to bleed your rear brakes and if you have abs , take it to the dealership to have them do a abs bleed procedure on the digital tech. .

WHY THROWING abs brake codes

If you changed from the proper engineered stock wheel and have not had the ABS reprogrammed this would be why but H-D will only have an ABS program for their deswigned part combinations in any case.

Where do you fill the transmission fluid at for a 1998 HD electra glide

Hi Anonymous, on the right side cover of the transmission where the clutch cable screws into there is a cap that takes a 3/8" allen key. This is your transmission dip stick, on later models it is located on top of transmission, right side in the rear. The transmission holds 20 to 24 oz. of HD Transmission Lubricant. Good luck

1991 ultra glide classic...brake problem .. the rear brake is locking up. The master cylinder has been rebuilt the lines have been flushed and the rod and cup have been replaced , but the rear brake keeps...

You have one of two possible problems. The first being the master cylinder plunger may not be returning back far enough to relieve the pressure on the rear brake system. Check to make sure you have at least a little bit of free travel in the pedal, about a half inch. Also, in the very bottom of the master cylinder reservoir, there are two holes. A large hole and a small hole of about 0.030". Make sure the small hole is not blocked. Do not drill the hole larger. The other problem is that the rubber brake hose could be damaged due to it being bent to a too tight radius when the brake job was done. The brake hose has multiple layers and the inside layer may have broke loose. This allows the high pressure fluid when the pedal is depressed to pass but not let the low pressure pass back to the master cylinder when the pedal is released. Install a new hose. I hope this helps.

I have a 2004 HD electra glide standard. The brake light is stuck on, if hit either the front brake or rear brake, they both click with the ligt not even flickering?

Follow the metal brake tube that comes out of your rear master cylinder back until you come to a pressure switch in the line. Remove all the wires from it and use an Ohm meter to check the resistance of the switch. If the switch shows continuity, take the switch out of the line and check it again. If it still shows continuity, replace it. If not, check the two wires coming from the front brake light switch the same way. You'll probably need a schematic to find out which wires you need to check but they usually connect in parallel to the rear brake switch.

Good Luck

04 ElectraGlide standard new brake pads rub on rotor all the time

nothing to worry about unless it's causing some serious drag. it's probably that you never noticed that your brakes made some noise in the past. could just be the pads you had installed. every bike i've noticed has the pads running on the rotors, with new pads you notice the sound more until they wear in a little.

This is part of 5000 mile service. To adjust follow the cable down till you find a boot (rubber) and slide it up,loosen the jam nut 9/16 and turn adjuster towards the jam nut 1/2.Then remove the derby cover (replace o-ring) loosen jam nut 11/16 and turn in the allen screw until it lightly seats and back off 1/2 to a full turn tighten down jam nut 6-10 ft.lbs. put cover on,go to cable mid-control and adjust till you have a 1/16 to1/8 freeplay at clutch lever (use a nickel) squeeze handle in at least three times to make sure ball and ramp seat Good Luck
