Hi Anonymous, when checking for spark the CKP needs to measure the compression bump in order to send the correct signal to the ICM/ECM so always check for spark with either a third plug grounded or lift the end of the plug boot 1/2 " off one of spark plugs that are in the head. and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty
2. Fuel supply valve turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded with gasoline as a result of over use of enrichner.
5. Fuel valve or filter clogged.
6. Vacuum hose to automatic fuel supply valve disconnected, leaking, or pinched.
7. Discharged battery, loose or broken battery connections.
8. Loose wire connection at coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and module.
9. Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting, spark plug cable connections loose,
or cables connected to wrong cylinders.
10. Ignition timing incorrect due to faulty ignition coil, ignition module, or sensors " Manifold Absolute Pressure" "Camshaft Position Sensor" "Crank Position Sensor" "Brake Apply Sensor
11. Engine lubricant to heavy ( winter operation )
12. Sticking or damaged valves or push rod wrong length.
13. Primary cam sproket spline sheared or missing spacer.
14. Security alarm system not disarming.

Cranks but will not fire

Did you check for spark?
Hold onto the spark plug wire and if you don't get the heck shocked out of you then problem is ignition. *** NO DON'T HOLD ONTO THE WIRE ***. Remove the spark plug stick it into the spark plug wire and make sure it it grounded good and have some one crank it if you can not see the spark plug gap while cranking it. You see a spark then problem is it is not getting any gas and find out why. If no spark then problem is ignition and then find out why....

It could be something as simple as a corroded connection in the ignition that intermittently turns the bike off. That is a heck of a wiring gremlin though. Another possibility is that it isn't spark at all but some weird intermittant clog in fuel delivery, like a stuck fuel filter...

How can you tell if the iginition is bad on a 2008 ktm mini

Well, the next step is to determine where the heck the ball park of the issue is, fuel, or spark...? The fast way is to pull the plug, hook it up to the plug wire, (the following step holds on until you stop cranking, or get shocked) hold the base of the spark plug against the engine block, AWAY from the plug hole (no need to start blow torches),
While holding the plug metal base against the ending, crank the bike over. If it sparks, you likely have a fuel problem. If it does not spark, you have something amok in the ignition system.

Car turns over but wont start. Changed the distributor and the cap, ignition module. Tried to get spark from plug connector in the wire and there isnt one, when i grounded it to the chassis. What the...

Take spark plug out and while plug wire is connected to plug...ground plug to chassis and turn the engine and watch for spark in plug gap.

If you have a spark in the gap...I'd then check fuel system for clogged filter, fuel pump pressure etc.
If you don't have a spark in plug gap...then I'd go to the coil or coil pack depending on the model.

Hope this helps...
