Question about Honda VT 600 C Shadow Motorcycles

Honda VT 600 C Shadow headlight intermittent

Headlight only comes on when the neutral lamp is illuminated. Any other gear and no headlight. Maybe a ground issue? Any hints where to look?

Hi, John if your headlight is not working, only one beam works, keeps burning out, blinking, dim or surges from bright to dim to bright the first thing you need to check is the headlight bulb for damaged filaments then check your light circuit fuse, then check your head light bulb socket ground wire for a clean tight connection, that being said the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty ground or power supply wire to headlight bulb socket.
2. Worn down solder contacts or loose fit of the bulb base in the socket due to vibration.
3. Worn, chafed, or broken wires in the light circuit.
4. Corroded, broken, or loose pins/sockets in wire connectors.
5. Faulty hi/lo beam switch.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Fuse is good but no continuity on both sides.
8. Faulty headlight relay.
9. Faulty wiring between battery positive and headlight bulb socket.
10. Weak charging alternator/generator/lighting coil.
11. Faulty voltage regulator/rectifier ground or overcharging.

Short circuit in Stratoliner passing lamps

Hi, Doug you have a dead short which is usually the easiest to find. Using a test light connected to the hot side of the blown fuse holder, start probing the wire leaving the fuse holder about an inch away from the test light should illuminate, keep probing towards the ignition switch until the test light no longer illuminates you are now very close to the short. 2003 impala keeps blowing rear parking lamp fuse

Same issue also when the fuse blows i looks my electric seat controls. I found the problem was underneath the hood underneath both the fuse boxes it was a power wire pinched under a plate that holds the fuse boxes on. This wire probably wore through after 140,000 miles of rubbing and being pinched. tell me if it works for you

Headlight very dim one side

The ground for that side may be bad. Look around there for the headlight ground. When you find it, take it off and make sure the ground wire contacts clean, unpainted metal before reattaching. If it's not the ground, maybe the socket or the wiring to it is not correctly done.
Good luck.

Neutral lights is out, with kickstand down and in neutral, bike will not start. also, the headlight doesn't work, yet the brights do.

The normal interlock on Yamahas is that you cannot crank starter if the machine is in gear with sidestand down. If you flip the sidestand off, it will start if the clutch is pulled in.
The problem is your bike is in neutral but the safety interlock relays are not seeing it and this is keeping the neutral lamp off also. Inspect the wiring on the left side of chassis near the engine...you should see a harness with a single sky blue wire, thats for neutral switch. The circuit grounds down at the neutral switch which is mounted inside crankcase.Ensure the connector from switch is clean and secure...if neutral light still doesn't work, unhook connector and temporarily ground the upper section of the harness...should see light illuminate, it it does, the issue is in the neutral switch in the crankcase.
The switch screws onto crankcase and there is a spring loaded brass pin that is fastened to shift drum that rotates across the inner face of the switch as you shift gears...when you reach neutral...the brass pin makes contact under the terminal, grounding the circuit, causing the neutral light and your interlocks to be satisfied.
The brass pin wears over time so it may be losing contact when you are in neutral. if necessary replace the brass pin ("neutral point ") and the spring "compression spring") found in the shift cam fork section of the parts diagrams.

You seem to have an intermittent open. Grab your headlight wires and wiggle them while watching the headlight itself. Se if you can make the light go on and off. check all elecrical connections. You might have a bad ground somewhere. Chaz Moto Dc

Passenger side headlight assembly inop. high and low beam bulbs good. fuses good. is there a relay? is so where is it

If only one headlight isn't operative, your fuse and bulbs are ok, then check for proper grounding at the headlight assembly.
There should be a black wire that comes from the headlight assembly and is attached somewhere at a good grounding point.
You can have power to the lamp, but if you don't have a solid ground connection, it won't light up.

Headlight on my jmstar scooter will not come on

Operate the dimmer switch--does one beam come on? Check inside the headlight shell and examine the wiring from the lamp socket into the handlebar and main harness wiring. If individual connectors, check that the colors match at each connector. If you can't find any problem, then the wiring is mis-connected. Make sure the lamp socket is connected to ground.
