Question about Motorcycles

1 Answer

Sym Symply 125cc Scooter

The bike is a 4 year old twist and go scooter. the last couple of trips I have made I have noticed a problem getting increasingly worse. When travelling above 40 mph it is 'jerking' backwards as though I am applying the brakes. I think it is low on oil so my question is what oil does it take and where does it need to be put in? Also is this a likely cause of the problem I am having?

I don't have the manual on had for the scooter, But the jerking Your experiencing above 40mph sounds to Me like it's due time for a carb cleaning, I'm not sure weather Your scooter is a 2 or 4 stroke so, If its a 2 stroke, You will either mix the oil with Your gas or look for a separate oil tank, If its a 4 stroke, Then it should have a small dipstick on the side of the case where the oil should go.

My 125cc twist and go scooter's number plate started melting

It sounds like it might have the wrong exhaust or muffler. Check all clearances and any plastic parts that might be too close.

How do i find the year of manufacture of my SYM Orbit50 motorscooter

Try entering the full vin number into any search engine. Email a good SYM scooter distributor with the vin number. The tyres should also have a date on them and would only be a month or two at most after the bike was made.Motorcycle tyre date. Hope this helps..

Hi, Stuck_record sounds like your mechanic is blowing blue smoke up your skirt you may want to try a different shop if that's possible for a 2nd opinion. Motor scooters performance can vary from country to country. If you are looking for more top speed try going up one size in the main jet and make sure the butterfly plate in the carburetor is completely "HORIZONTAL" when the throttle grip is wide open the slightest deviation will slow you down.

Any cc over 50cc will require a motorcycle endorsement on your current drivers license. A 125cc bike is small however very easy to ride due to size and weight. You can take a MSF safety course for around $100 in most states and that will qualify you for your endorsement as long as you pass the written test. ( In the state of NC is where I live) Enjoy the journey of riding. It is great fun and cost effective as well.
