Did you measured the voltage on the battery terminals while the engine is on? The voltage should be somewhere between 13V-14V, but not less than 12.7 when idle with consumers on.

Mahindra scorpio crde is having pickup problem. The rpm meter doesn't rise above 2

The RPM meter is fully electronic and when it goes haywire, generally it's a problem with electrical current...
1. Grounding wires
2. Alternator
3. Dying battery

In my case, the alternator became gunked up with oil (from the pump that sprung a leak on the connector) and started destroying itself... the RPM's would be fine, then jump, then show lower than expected...

Check if the battery light periodically comes on very dimly while driving as well (almost for sure an alternator problem then)

2010 flhx battery fully charged but starter drags bad then clicks. Jumped power from car, still does the same thing.

Hi Anonymous, perform the following tests:
1. Fill acid type batteries to proper levels.
2. Charge battery overnight at 1-2 amps you need 12 volts or better after charging.
3. Make sure all connections are clean and tight especially the negative cable at both ends.
4. Hook up volt meter to battery and start engine, if meter falls below 9.5 v replace battery.
5. With engine running at 3600 RPM battery should read 14.3-14.7 volts if not continue tests.
6. Unplug voltage regulator from alternator at crankcase by front of primary cover.
7. To test voltage regulator go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8EjV0IjW9Q
8. With ohm meter, one lead grounded, touch alternator pin meter should read infinity, if not replace stator.
9. With ohm meter, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read 0.1 to 0.2 ohms on 1989 and later models. 0.2 to 0.4 ohms 1988 and earlier models, if not replace stator.
10. With volt meter set on AC scale, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read
16 to 20 volts AC for every 1000 RPM'S 1989 and later and 19 to 26 volts AC for every 1000 RPMS. If not replace rotor. Good luck

Ignition clicks but doesn't turn over

If you just replaced the battery then my guess is that you have a bad alternator. Your fresh battery could hold the charge for a couple days without being charged but now it's dead. Try charging the battery (via jumper cables or a battery charger). If the car starts up after the charge then you probably need a new alternator. You can verify this by checking the voltage across the battery after you start the car. The voltage should be more than 13.5 volts, if it's any less than the alternator isn't charging the battery. Good luck!

Replaced alt twice in two weeks

I had the same issue a month ago. i'm not a mechanic. i took it to the local garage, and they replaced the alternator. when we picked it up, hte light came back on. he said it was the control module and asked us to go the dealer. the dealer replaced the alternator with an OEM altenator and it has worked since. was the first replacement bad or is the OEM different. not sure...but it has worked since

The battery on my car discharges completely with the car standing on my drive. I have checked interior lights and boot lamp. The dealer says there is no discharge on the battery at present. I note that...

you will need to troubleshoot. If the dealer is right, the problem may be intermittent. That would be unusual for a short.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5925550-dead_battery_troubleshooting . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

replace the drive belt and if you have a keypad on the drivers door and it has been used alot they get shorts in them and will drain the battery so have that tested as well
