Check wires by neck and under tank,some folks have had problems with wires breaking. ignition switch is another area to check

The Tachometer is tied into the ignition circuit. The pink wire goes to one side of the coil. If there is a plug on the coil, remove the plug and see if there is an empty pin slot in the plug that might match something in your directions. I do know that the pink wire is the "trigger" wire on all Sportsters but I've never installed a tachometer on a Softail. Good Luck, Steve
