Question about 2006 kawasaki ER-6f

When I hook up the battery with the positive going to the starter relay all the fuses work like the suppose to (test light on the ground side and the fuses light up)but the motor will not turn oven and the frame is a positive connection,if I reverse the positive and neg.,the motor turns over but the fuses are reverse polarity and the frame is ground like it should be,Please help ,Very confused Norm

A friend of mine just went through this with his Ninja. Turned out the starter relay assembly he got was the wrong style. He researched it and found there are 2 types, even though the parts supplier said there was only one.

30 amps is heavy, so bypass nothing. Look for a short in a heavy circuit like the the headligh, starter (questionable because of delay) same with starter relay. You have a wire shorting out on the frame somewhere. It's that cut and dry.. Go to the auto parts store and buy an automatic circuit breaker that matches the fuse type your bike uses. but instead of a 30 amp, get a 20 or 25 amp. As long as theres a short it will trip and reset by itself saving you the hassle of changing fuse every few minutes.. While the breaker cycles on and off you can search for the short. When you find it, the breaker will stop cycling and stop in the on or reset. Good Luck

If you have a multimeter check the voltage across the starter when you press the starter button. If not try it with a 12v bulb this will tell you if you are getting any power.Try these then come back.

Car wont start have replaced starter motor and relay and igniyion switch still wont start


What is year--make--model?
Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections are all good. If your saying starter motor won't crank, check voltage and ground at the starter motor. Usually two voltage circuits at the starter, one comes from the battery, hot all the time. The other circuit goes hot with key in the crank position and in your case, I suppose wired through the starter relay. The relay has two circuits, the load side and control side of relay. The control side of relay needs voltage and ground to energize the relay. The load side of relay, in a diagram shows a line with arrowhead, when relay is energized, that arrowhead line moves to other terminal and that circuit carries voltage to starter. The voltage for load side of relay is usually hot all the time. I can't rule out neutral or clutch switch. The starter motor usually grounds through the engine block. If all voltage and ground circuit for the starter are good, I'd have to make sure the engine isn't seized.
Any testing at the starter, make sure tranny is in park or neutral and functional parking brake is set.

so now you have to check the starter system and wiring

you already looked over the fuses, right?

Have a no crank 2000 grand caravan replaced starter I've check all wires under hood I've checked all fuses I've even checked all relays that pertain to shut down, starter , under hood and all relays u


Sounds like an electrical problem. The caravan has multiple safety cutouts that prevent the engine from starting. The ignition switch and the neutral selector switch are the two most likely to cause the starter not to turn. The function of these as well as the starter solenoid relay and the battery connections and such can be checked with a voltmeter. Grab a manual at your favorite local auto parts store and begin troubleshooting before you go and buy more parts you may not need.

I will try to help, powell. Your start circuit from battery to ignition switch to starter-and back to battery. You may need to check every thing here, including the grounds, for a loose connection, or just possibly a failing part.
If only complaint is intermittent starter action, and no other problems with ignition switch, let's assume switch is good, so battery to ignition switch is good. Now from the switch, a yellow start wire goes to the instrument panel fuse block, to "crank" fuse #8 (10 amp), from there a purple wire goes to the safety switch. If manual it is a clutch pedal position switch (simple on/off switch-when clutch down switch is on). If automatic, purple wire goes to Transmission Range Switch on the transm.-in park or neutral the purple wire has continuity in and out of switch.
From that switch, the purple wire goes to the starter relay (under hood fuse-relay center). Now the relay: purple wire in start will energize the relay- wire goes to coil side of relay, and then coil side goes to ground. On relay power side, the power feed is a red wire-and it is the same red wire that initially sends power to the ignition switch. A 40 amp fuse in fuse-relay center sends power to ignition switch, and a splice goes to the starter relay as the power feed for relay. When relay is energized, contacts close, and power is sent from relay to the starter solenoid, again on a purple wire. When solenoid contacts close, starter motor is connected to the big battery cable on the starter.

There is your start circuit. try a new or different relay, try a new or test the clutch switch (or transm. range switch). Buy a $5 test light and use it to check where power is lost when starter won't operate. Hold key in start and check if fuse #8 is getting power. Check the safety switch, with key held in start, the purple wire should be hot. Check if relay has a power feed (pull relay out and check terminals) and if relay coil has a power signal in start. Check the relay's coil side ground. If that ground is intermittent, relay won't work.
When it won't start, use a test light, you should be able to find it.

Basic electrical problem . loose connection on a ground circuit ,high resistance . There are no magical fixes for automotive electrical gremlins . Finding electrical wiring diagrams an voltage drop testing the electrical circuits is the only way to find the problem .
When the ignition switch is placed in the Start position 12 volts is supplied through the Park/Neutral Position Switch or Clutch Pedal Position switch to the switch and coil side of the Starter Cut Relay. If theft is not active the Theft Deterrent Module grounds the control side of the Starter Cut Relay closing its switch. Power then travels to the coils side of the ST Relay with ground at G200 closing the ST Relay. Power then flows from the Main fuse in the Fuse Block - Underhood through the switch side of the ST Relay and then to the S terminal of the Starter Solenoid. Ground is found through the engine block.

Will not crank turn key and nothing happens the car has power the starter is good the battery is good the relays are all good


Check fuse # 28 (15 Amp) with a test light. (Located in the Power Distribution Center (PDC) on the left side of the engine compartment) It should have power only when the ignition switch is turned to the START position. If there is no power there, then you probably have a bad ignition switch. The only other fuse involved would be fuse #8 (40 Amp) which is also in the PDC. If this fuse is blown a whole lot of stuff is not going to work - not just your starter. The starter motor relay (Also in the PDC) is controlled by the PowertrainControl Module. The wiring diagrams show it as a 5 pin relay whereonly 4 of the pins are used. If you check for power and ground at the connector pins for the relay, there should be one pin that is hot all the time. This is the power from fuse #8. a second pin should be hot with the key in the RUN and START positions. This would be the circuit running through fuse# 28. One pin should have continuity to ground (your test light should light up if you hook it to the battery positive terminal and probe this terminal.) This is the circuit that goes down to the starter. The 4th pin will have no continuity to anything at all until the ignition is placed in the START position, when it will have continuity to ground. This is the relay control circuit from the PCM.
If you dont have power at the relay connector as described, then you must repair the circuits between the fuses and the relay. If you don't have the grounds as describedfor the starter circuit, you ether have an open circuit going to the starter or a bad starter. If you are not getting ground on the control circuit from the PCM, it could be several other things causing your no-crank problem. It could be an open circuit between the starter relay and the PCM or it could be that the PCM is not allowing an engine start for one reason or another - The PCM will have to be scanned to find out what the problem is.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Pls see your other post, but basically:
  • in most, one end of the red wire is connected straight to the battery's + terminal. The other end of the red wire goes to the main fuse;
  • the black of course as you posted goes to the ground;
  • interchanging the 2 wires from the starter relay would make no difference;
  • the starter relay is not directly grounded;
  • the starter relay's + wire goes to the starter button;
  • the starter  relay's - wire goes to starter cut-off activated by safety interlocks (neutral and clutch lever).
