i found the problem with my fan not working, seems that there was a wire harness hitting the fan blade cousing it not to turn when it was supposed to come on there for popping the fuse. i just moved the harness out of the way of the fan and now it works fine..

It sounds like the fuse pops when the fan tries to turn on. that makes me think it's got a grounded wire or water in the connector. providing you have the right amperage fuse.

Check the relay for your thermo fan, should be in the main fuse box under the bonnet. Often when they heat up the fault presents itself. Other than that your thermo fan might be faulty.

My 2005 Yamaha R6 is overheating at idle...like sitting at red lights.. I wonder if its a temp switch or a blown fuse, or even a wiring problem. Any help?

if your cooling fan is not switching on then i would check fuses then if all fuses are good check for 12V at you cooling fan when temp gets between half and 3/4 way to hot . if you have no voltage it could be a temp sensor or relay . if you have voltage there your fan motor has gone bad and needs to be replaced . another thing to check is the hoses running to the radiator . let the bike idle and warm up and check the temp of the radiator hoses . if one is much cooler than it should be then you might have a bad thermostat on your bike and its not opening enough to let coolant flow at idle. water pump could be going bad as well. if the bike warms up and fan does not kick on untill you rev it up a bit i would check the thermostat and waterpump

Motor cycle over- heating, cooling system problem

it could be a few different things, first thing i would check is the fuse, if the fuse is ok, unplug the fan and jump it stright from the battary to make sure your fan is still ok. if the fan dont turn stright from the battary then replace the fan. if it does turn ok then you have a thermo switch that sences heat and tells the fan to kick on, what you need to do to check this switch is, unplug the switch, take a peice of wire maybe about 4 to 6 inches long, strip both ends and connect them to the leads inside the plug.. kinda like direct connect, turn on the ignition and see if the fan turns.. if not, replace the thermo switch. the only other possibility is in the cooling system wireing witch i dont know much about.. i just went threw the same thing with my 2001 yamaha r6 and i changed the fan and it was still popping fuses when the fan was supposed to come on. After 2 days of checking and trying i made the descovery that a wire harness was hitting the fan blade causing it not to turn.. i hope this helps you out and good luck..

2001 yamaha r6 overheating

Check your ground wires, that can cause a fuse to blow..Make sure the replacement fuse is same amperage as the original....the fan on this is only supposed to run at low traffic speeds right? you shouldn't need it at highway speeds.. Good luck to you friend....Tim
