Question about Suzuki GSX-R 250 Motorcycles

1 Answer

I have a 2002 gsx250, and i am having issues with getting initial spark on the left cylinder. The bike will start, but barley idle. After about 15 minutes, the bike fires up and revs go up and it runs fine. We have replaced the coil, but no change i have thought of the CDI but is there any way to confirm this as i would rather exhaust other options before paying out for one and having it not change, like the coil. All help appreciated.

It sounds like you need to run a compression test
has it been stored
could also be a problem with your diaphragm in your carb

Check the fuses. Is the kill switch on or shorting out? Disconnect it and then check for spark. Sidestand/centerstand should be up, Got a good battery?

I am unfamiliar with your Keeway and just trying to help. Don't give me a bad rating if I miss the mark on this one. Thanks.

SOURCE: left cylinder not firing, started ayear ago would

Does that model have one coil or 2? If it checks out fine on both sides, I would assume you have a carb issue. Not getting enough gas to that one cylinder. If the ignitor was bad, you wouldn't have fire to either coil.

2002 Honda CM 125 C only running on one cylinder

Hi, Martin you need "FIVE" things in order for a cylinder to run properly:
1. FUEL: in order to validate your not getting fuel spray some starting fluid into the air cleaner and hit the starter button, if it fires up and runs for a few seconds then you know you have a fuel delivery issue. Multi carb banks should be bench "SYNC"
2. SPARK: remove the spark plug and with it connected to the spark plug cable ground the threads to something metal you should see a bluish white spark if not you have a faulty spark plug, spark plug cable, ignition coil, condenser, CKP, ECM, sensor or the wiring in between.
3. COMPRESSION: you must have at least 80-100 PSI for most bikes, multi-cylinder engines should be within 10-15% of each other if not perform a leak down test you may have a burnt or bent valve or hole in the piston or broken rings.
4. CAM TIMING: confirm your timing marks are aligned to see if the cam chain or adjuster are worn out and the chain has skipped a couple teeth.
5. IGNITION TIMING: on older bikes check to see if your points have not closed up, timing plate has not become loose and confirm with a timing light for proper retard and advance functions, on newer bikes where timing is controlled by an ECM and is nonadjustable check you CKP, TPS, MAP, O2, sensor or its counterpart for integrity.

2002 Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R after sitting for a month bike would not start. Got it to start changed spark plugs cleaned Carbs. Bike starts and revs nice. on first gear bike runs great, once in second gear...

Any one of these could be cause of your problem. Sounds like maybe a spark plug coils is bad. Did you gap the plugs? Also sound like secondary fuel injectors not opening fully, and air leaks inbetween intake boots and head. Start bike and let idle Use non-chlorinated brake cleaner spray small squirt on each intake boot find the leak when the bike idles up there is a leak. You can't properly sync multiple carbs if there is even one vacuum or intake leak. Take out spark plugs keep them in their own same cylinders. Read the plugs what do they tell you. Google how to read a spark plug.

When turn the bike off gas leaks back on the spark plugs and causes the bike not start

If you are turning the gas off when turning off engine and gas is leaking onto the plugs you may need to rebuild carbs and put in new needle and seat!may want to also look into proper float level!but please make sure your gas is always off when engine is not running,Hondas have always had issues with fuel leaking into cylinders and on plugs when left on.

My 2002 1100 v star classic does not run on the front cylinder, has spark, has compression, front cylinder stays cold. Back cylinder runs on spark, fuel, compression, no problem. Give any throttle and bike...

How good did you clean the carbs? The idle jets usually have small holes along the side, and if they are blocked with dirt or bad fuel, it won't idle. Make sure ALL of the passages are clear, and all jets are clear, through the center and holes in the sides of the pilot jets.

New spark plugs last 10-15 minutes of riding

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, the only factor to be checked that could foul a sparkplug for your bike would be the 2T oil injector/pump. There is too much 2T oil going to the combustion chamber. Either the injector would require restricting or for some reason, there is also 2T oil in the fuel tank (pre-mix).

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Cylinder issue

Well I figured it out. The carbs were rejetted at some point by a previous owner and the bike was running richer than normal. I recently did a tune up on the bike and put in new OEM spark plugs. The oem plugs were getting fouled. I put the old plugs back in which are a step hotter than oem and the bike ran again. Im just relieved it wasnt anything major. Thanks for the advice.
