The cam WILL affect the timing as you suggested and changing the timing will also affect the fuel and carbie settings. The cam should have come with new timing settings. Last time I encountered a similar problem someone had swapped the plug leads on the cylinders.

KAWASAKI ZX-6R (ZX600) NINJA CAM & CRANK TIMING SETUP 1995 - 1998

Turn the engine over by using a 17mm socket or spanner on the crank until the no.1 inlet valve goes down & then comes back up; continue turning until the T mark for cylinders 1:4 lines up with the rear mating surface of the 2 crankcases, number 1 cylinder is now at top dead center on the compression stroke.
The cams are marked 117 IN & 117 EX so they don't get mixed up, align the IN & EX marks on each sprocket with the the cylinder head surface so that the IN marks face to the rear & the EX marks face to the front.
Next check the no of roller pins in the cam-chain between the inlet cams IN mark & the Exhaust cams EX marks, make sure that all the slack is taken up on the rear run & that there is none at the front or between the camshafts: There must be 30 pins in between the 2 marks (including the ones next to each mark)
If everything is still the same when you have the camshafts bolted down you are OK

Where is the timing notches located on crank and cam on a 1991 ford escort 1.9 liter

Hi Virginia, There are slots on the rear of the cam shafts which require an alignment tool. The tool is fitted into the slots and locks the cams with the crankshaft at TDC. Regards John

Replacing timing belt on a 1991 Pontiac Lemons 1.6L Need the cam & crank index mark locations. Diagram showing the marks would be nice, thank's.

When you have everything taken apart the markings should be on the pulleys and the crank. Do you know what the correct timing is for the engine? If not go buy a Haynes manual and they will have all you need to do the job. Haynes is a lot less expensive then the factory manual. Make sure you drain the oil and anti freeze also, or you will have a mess on your hands.

I got 250cc 1994 Kawasak ZZR. Is that 4 stroke or 2 stroke. wat oil does it need

A ZZR250 is a four stroke that uses SE or SF class four stroke 4T motor oil. Motul or equivalent.
On an older bike I would goe with 20-50 or 20-40 viscosity and it take just under 2 liters.

1991 toyota p/u timings not right. If crack is at

If the crank is lined up to the mark, it is at TDC, meaning cylinder number 1 piston is at TDC.

Both cam pulleys should have marks, they just look a little different.
Here are the diagrams to help out.

I think the crank is not set on zero...there is a special timing mark on the fllywheel it has to be set to and it is not zero or top dead center....look for special marks on the flywheel thru the rubber inspection slot in the back which is quite a few degrees from those timing marks that show zero.If memory serves me there are two line marks onthat flywheel that is the cam tioming marks

Not starting

Make sure your getting spark to the plugs. It must be a good hot spark.
If that's okay then you might have a timing problem with the crank and cam. (Jumped time).
You'll need to check the timing marks on the crank and cam timing gears to make sure they didn't jump out of time.
Check for any vacuum leaks as well.

Replacing timing belt 91 mercury capri

according to a manual , the crank key will point to arrow , the intake cam should have an letter i aligned with arrow on belt cover and exhaust cam should have letter e aligned with arrow on belt cover , and as always rotate the engine 2 full turns to inspect timing marks before cranking or trying to start the engine . if you haven't taken the original belt off yet , paint your marks for quicker reference .
