This means the engine is running lean the choke lessens the airflow to give it a richer fuel mixture (more parts gas to air ratio)
*first you should check the spark plug--
This can be caused by faulty gaskets.
I would also make sure the floats work and that the needle and seat (connectet to the floats) work also the needle tip can become worn over time it should make a v shape.
when you clean the carb you should get every jet and hole with carb cleaner and you should use high air pressure through the jets and clear any grime clogged in the middle of the jet passages.
make sure you have the right air to fuel mixture (32:1)
be careful an engine with the choke on too long can strip away the oil lubrication protecting the cylinder from being scored

Idle jet is clogged up. if it revs while choked but dies when choke is switched at idle than its the idle jet. but clean carb for maximum results

2001 heritage clssaic starts and idles fine when you put it under power it bogs out after 1/4 trottle pull the choke out and you get to 1/2 trottle before it bogs and if you hold in bog zone it will die...

It sounds like one of two things. One, the jets in the carb may be clogged. The way you're describing it, it sounds like the main jet in the carb is clogged. You're running off the slow speed jet. When you open the choke (enricher) you're adding a bit more fuel and air improving the performance a bit. If it's te carb, it needs to be completely disassembled and soaked in a professional quality carb cleaner and thoroughly gone through to ensure all passageways are clear.

The next problem is the exhaust system. I've seen bikes do this before when changing a camshaft. Remove a stock cam and install a high performance cam and the bike will no longer run. The reason is that the baffles in the exhaust system were so restrictive that the engine could no longer "breathe" with them in there. Removed the baffles and the engine ran fine but was too loud for the owner's liking. We replaced the stock system with a free flowing high performance muffler system and the bike ran great.

Good Luck
Steve

Brake problem

The vacuum release is at fault. It is mounted near the emergency brake pedal. It has a silver round type metal vacuum pod attached to it with a vacuum line going to it.

Carburetor?

Try cleaning the carbs. Does the engine run any better with the choke on? If so the carbs need cleaning.

I dont think my vac.secondaries are working and i think a vac.line is hooked up wrong its a quadrajet 4bbl on a stock 305 in an 84 el camino

On the R.H side of the carb behind the automatic choke down on the rear throttle shaft there is a pin running thru the shaft with a lever that will lock it out. If the choke is not fully open or the weight behind the auto choke is not dropping the lever will not relase the secondaries to open.
