SOURCE: Starter motor spinning but not turning over engine

take the starter off and look in at the flywheel to see if the teeth are in good shape if not the fly wheel needs replaced...if they are in good shape then the solinoid may be bad on the starter...take it to a electric motor shop they will likely test it for free

2006 Linhai Monarch 125 starter motor turns but does not engage the engine

Hi, Kos_vip the starter clutch is a separate mechanical gear driven component that is activated by the starter motor, it engages the clutch pack gear or the flywheel gear to turn over the engine. It has an internal mechanism that allows the gear to turn in one "ONE DIRECTION" only and once the engine starts allows the gear to free spin with engine rotation. If the starter gear free spins in "BOTH DIRECTIONS" then the drive gear has failed, it might be serviceable on some models but usually needs to be replaced.

Battery is good but when I turn it on it just clicks won't start, maybe after 20 times it starts

Without hearing the sound it makes - it's kind of hard to diagnose.

The engine starting process consists of turning the key to start, the starter motor's rotor moving forward to engage the engine's flywheel, and then the starter motor 's "rotor" spinning until you move the key from "start" to "run". You can hear the starter motor spinning - but one usually can't hear the rotor moving forward to engage the flywheel. As a result, you hear the odd spinning sound - which is the starter rotor spinning. The engine never actually turns over because the rotor never engages the fly wheel. If this is the case, then it is very likely that your starter needs to be checked and / or replaced.

Good luck!

2009 Roketa 50 Gas Moped will not turn over

Hi, Msmcenaney before testing any electrical component in the Starting Circuit it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand, clutch, neutral safety switch.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid, starter motor or circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. Faulty ignition relay.
14. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
15. Check for engine trouble codes.

Starter motor just whines and wont start

Hi, Rayanthony19 the starter drive/Bendix is a mechanical gear driven component that engages the clutch pack ring gear to turn over the engine. It has an internal mechanism that allows the gear to turn in one direction and once the engine starts allows the drive gear to free spin. If gear free spins in both directions then the drive gear has failed it is not serviceable and needs to be replaced. Starter spins but dose not turn over

If you can hear it spin(starter), but not actually hear the motor turning over or trying to crank/start..... Sounds like starter not engaging-Replace starter. Small possibility flywheel is damaged, but less likely.

2004 F-250, 5.4l gas. Won't start or even crank.

are you referring to the starter relay on the firewall? the voltage should drop to 0 when measuring across the signal path because the connection is made, essentially making it a piece of wire and there is no difference in potential between the two points. is there 12v to the starter motor? is the starter solenoid (located on the starter) receiving 12v? check fuses and fusible links. disconnect hot leads from the starter. remove the starter, and supply 12v directly to the motor. does the pinon gear extend and spin? starter.

Starter button wont work, battery ok,everything else was fine

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, try starting the bike with the clutch lever pulled in and/or the sidestand folded up. If it does start, then the interlocks (safety features) has to be checked.

If still a no go, determine if you hear a clicking sound. If yes, follow the big cable from the battery's + terminal. it would normally end up in the starter motor relay. Jumper the 2 big terminals while starting the bike. Expect a big spark hence jumper on the nuts, not on the threaded portion. if the starter motor spins, then it would be a defective syarter relay. If the motor stil fails to spin, then it would be a faulty starter motor; most likely the carbon brushes.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

1999 ttr 250 starter motor is not engaging

I would guess it is the starer clutch, also called the one way clutch. I went on to www.bikebandit.com and looked up your bike and it has a nice exploded veiw of your starter clutch . I will try to put a direct link to it , hopefully it will take you to it. http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/yamaha-motorcycle-tt250rl-1999/o/m7707
if not go put in your bike and look under starter clutch.

Not starting properl doesent seem to engage

Some things to check:
Is your battery fully charged and does it have the proper amount of electrolyte? Use a multi-meter across the battery terminals, you should get around 13v (direct current). Watch the meter as you try to start the scooter, if the voltage drops a lot your battery is probably bad.
Is your starter button working? When you press the button do you hear a click or get any indication it has been pressed? Has there been any damage to the switch area recently?
Is the starter working? Do you hear the starter turning the engine over, or is the starter just spinning? If just spinning and your battery is good, check your starter solenoid.
