SOURCE: removing harley davidson ultra classic gas tank

Drain the fuel either by siphening or removing the cross over tube at the front of the tank and letting it drain that way or just block off those cross over lines and leave the fule in the tank for removal.

0) remove seat
1) drain fuel
2) undo cross over line (bottom front of gas tank.
3) shut off pet **** and remove fuel line from pet ****.
4)there should only be 2 bolts holding the tank on, one at the top front of the tank and one at the back of the tank.

All in all a pretty easy (but possibloy messy) job.

Oil pressure works sometimes pegs out sometimes it doesn't have any pressure whats the problem?

Hi, Danny you may have a faulty sending unit to check for normal engine oil pressure, make sure the engine oil level is between the add and full marks on the dipstick. Remove the oil pressure sending unit, located on the right engine case, behind the oil filter mounting bracket, and replace/plum/or rig in a known good mechanical gauge that reads 0 to 40/50 lbs. Start the engine and run it until the engine oil reaches normal operating temperature of 230 degrees. At 1,000 RPM, the oil pressure should be 2 to 4 lbs. at 2,000 RPM the oil pressure should be 30 to 38 lbs. Why i dont have oil pressure when the engine is hot

If it doesn't run hot and you haven't blown the engine, I'd say the pressure gauge is junk. Unless your using a 10W oil; always use straight 30w in small engines, it does much better.

Oil pressure gauge bulb replacement

You have to remove the windshield and outer fairing to get the rear of the gauge. Give the electrical connection to the gauge about a half turn and remove the connection from the gauge. Replace the bulb, re-install the electrical connection, fairing and windshield, and your done!

D01CLR code on a 2000 classic harley Davidson

Hi Anonymous, start by checking oil level in tank and make sure it is between the add and full mark. With engine at normal operating temperature 180-230 degrees and the use of a 10 micron synthetic media oil filter, oil pressure will be 30-38 psi at 2,000 RPM and 3-5 psi. at idle. The oil pressure light is designed to come on at 2 psi. or less. To accurately test oil pressure remove oil pressure sending unit and install known good oil pressure gauge that reads 0-50, there might possibly be some plumbing required for hard to access points. If you are out in the middle of nowhere and there is no cell phone service and your oil pressure gauge isn't working and your oil pressure light is burned out, despair not, you still have one last line of defense left HYDRAULIC LIFTERS, as long as those tireless workers are quiet, you have oil pressure, maybe not much, but enough to get you down the road at a slow to moderate speed using the least amount of RPMS as necessary. Where's the oil pressure gauge on a harley 2003

The sending unit for the oil pressure light is located down at the oil pump. Look under the engine on the right side. The oil pump is located between the engine and the frame.

Good Luck

Easiest or best way to add an oil pressure gauge to an 88 harley 883 sportster..

to add an oil pressure gauge, you'll need to put the pressure pickup tube at the same place where the oil pressure sending unit is now.

I've seen oil pressure gauges on Big Twins but I don't recall seeing one on a Sportster. I guess I ought to warn you that installing an oil pressure gauge on a Harley engine can cause you to have a heart attack. Why? Because when the engine is idling hot, it has very little oil pressure. The oil pressure sending unit is designed to turn the oil pressure light off at four, yes I said four pounds of oil pressure. The Harley engine is a high volume low pressure system. The reason for this is because it has roller bearings on the crankpin, not shell bearings like *** bikes. So, unless you get an extremely accurate gauge, when your bike is idling on a hot summer day, your gauge will read zero.

Besides, you have the best oil pressure gauge one could ask for in that engine. They're called hydraulic tappets. If you lose oil pressure, they'll let you know very quickly. They'll rattle so loudly that you'll be forced to turn the ignition off.
