Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To my understanding and in some versions, there is a 30A main fuse located at the starter relay. To locate the starter relay, trace/follow the + battery cable. There would be a rubber cap. Upon removal, the big terminals would be exposed as well as the main fuse.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Wrap a wire around the outside Metal of your rca jack in back of your radio and ground the other end of that wire to the back of your radio and the noise goes away

200 Ultra Classic engine shuts down loses all power and radio, tac and headlight fry out

Hi Anonymous, the first thing i would check is the negative cable from the battery to the frame for being broken or loose. As far as the radio fuse is concerned you have a hard/dead short that should be easy to find generally they are the easiest. Time to get out your test light and connect it to the power side of the, circuit breaker or the blown fuse receiver, start by tracking the out bound wire towards the ignition switch and beyond if necessary, when the test light quits lighting you are very close to your short. We hooked up the cb radio and the meter light lit up.... my buddy tiltted the radio back and it started to smoke, i took the cap off and the smoke was comming from under the echo board, we fixed one...

If there was a direct short to ground.....which it sounds like there would've blown the protecton diode. The protectio diode is located near the power plug on the inside of the radio (component side). It will be black with a white stripe at one end, It looks like a little can/cylinder with wires coming out of each end. Kinda like a resistor.....but smooth.
The problem lies HERE.....
If it did burn the diode, it will not look like that, It will be a crispy little black thing that falls apart when you touch it.
Just look around near the power plug for a burnt component. If you see one...well...thats probably it.
FYI: the diode will be directly between the pos and neg leads in the circuit near the plug.

One more thing. If the radio started smoking when you tilted it....that means that there is something metal rolling around in there loose. Thats the only reason it should've shorted like that.
Good luck!!

I went to jump start my bike and I messed up by connecting the batt on my bike wrong + to - and - to + now my bike wont power up ive had the bat. tested it was fine just advised me to trickle charge over...

You didn't say what year or make it is, If you crossed the wires, you probably blew a fuse, check all the obvious ones, then look for some that are hiding in the wire harness. Depending on the bike, Honda always hides one or two. It will take some looking, but you should find something burned out. Check it out.

1993 mustang 5.0 has no power to starter. head lights work. the x owner tried to start the car smoke came from under the hood in the wiring

Suspect a burned-out 'fuse link'--a special section of the wiring that protects the car if certain components short out and overload the wiring (why don't they use fuses to protect these areas you ask, cheaper to use fuse links I say). Anyway, these fuse links may or may not protrude from the wiring harness, and the job of the repair person is to find the burned out link, replace it with a like device plus locate and repair/replace the shorted component. Good luck!

No digital dash

Check the fuses for the dash, but I'll bet it will need repaired. Usually on Cadillac the radio is in the trunk. The part in the dash is just the control to the radio and it is wired to the cluster. If you try to wire an aftermarket stereo to this plug that went to the radio controls, it shorts out and burns the cluster. Hopefully it blew the fuse before it burnt the cluster but usually not.

95 Jetta, not starting?

does the car have an alarm system? if so what kind is it. some alarms prevent the car from starting if it sences a problem. it is possible that you hooked up the stereo and it is causing a malfunction in the starting.
