Steering wobble at 65km decelerating

2005 softtail deluxe. New metzler tires installed and balance. While driving between 50-65 km/h , took one hand off to signal left, had a front end wobble. Accelerated back up to 70 km,decelerated, one hand on bars, wobble still there when reached 65km until just below 50km, then stops, get speed back to 70, lift hands just off bars as decelerating, severe wobble until just below 50 km. Have new tire installed. Retested and wobble still there. Checked and adjusted to spec by motorcycle mechanic. Retested. one handed wobble still there 65-50km/h and severe wobble with no hands. Is this normal? No wobble felt whe both hands are on handlebars. Any idea?

You have a suspension problem, but figuring out exactly what is causing it is almost impossible. Could be anything from steering head to forks, rear shock, swingarm... Basically anything that secures anything related to the wheels & tires which is pretty much the whole bike. I'd go over the whole thing and check every bolt for proper specs, check the steering head and swingarm bearings and if it's still there just live with it. If you never had the wobble before the new tires try different tires. You can spend a lot of time and money looking and still never cure it.

No this is not normal. I had to go through 2 different times having a tire balanced once to get a wobble out.

There is a wobble in the steering wheel between 80 and 90 km/h what could it be?

A steering vibration at high speeds is usually a result of front tire imbalance. A loose or worn front suspension or steering component can sometimes cause a vibration as well. You should check over all the joints (ie: tie rods, ball joints, track bar etc) and if that checks out have the front tires balanced.

I have front end wobble on my motorcyle. The wheel has been balanced a couple of times.I have had a new tyre fitted. No problems with head bearings etc.Still I have the problem around 40.Can you help please?

Hello geoff100lee.... many of the "C's" have a small wobble in the steering at certain speeds...most notable while decelerating... Two considerations that control a front end shimmy are the tightness of the steering head bearing and steering dampers.
Since most bikes don't have steering dampers it's EXTREMELY important that the head bearing is properly adjusted. Your dealer is most likely aware of this problem on the "C", even if he won't admit to it.
There is a fix for it using tapered needle bearings. The bearings are about 40 buxs, but requires pressing and a few special tools to install. If you search VTXcafe.com or VTXOA.com forums you can find instructions.
Good luck...i hope this helps. please rate me a fixya.

Tire was either not balanced properly, or wheel is bent.

SCOOTER WOBBLE

Most wobbles are due to tire balance issues. If you have one side of the tire worn more than the other, this will cause an imbalance in the tire. If it is still in decent shape, you may be able to find a shop that can balance it. If it is more than 1/2 worn out, replace it for safety sake.

Check your tires for abnormal wear, out of balance, maybe alloy rim out of roundness.
