Check all the wires-"clean and tight" it may be a loose wire or bad conection. if thats good it may be the starter or starter solenoid telling you its bad, also check the wires in the starter button on the hanldle bar or the ignition switch

Intermittent starter won't engage on mercrusier7.4 1988 boat engine

might be a burned spot on the starter contacts where the brushes power the motor.
tap the starter to see if problem goes away.
sometimes you can clean the contacts but that is a temporary fix.

1965 mustang starter fires but won't engage flywheel. it is a brand new starter

Doesn't matter. The forks inside the starter may be missing or broke off or bad spring in starter that pushes the gear out. Try new started. Starter may have to be shimmed to make contact with flywheel. Starter may be kicking out but not engaging flywheel.

I have a 1999 Gilera Runner 180FXR, New bat 12V 9 amps. Starter turns and spins pinion gear but won't engage starter ring. If it does it turns ver slow or won't turn engine over. In manual it

Yep, not enough amps to engage the starter clutch, and when ti does engage, not enough amps to turn the engine. You need a 12 amp battery.

ANY FAULT CODES? HAVE YOU CHECKED THE STARTE DEPTH FOR PROPER CLEARANCE? HAVE YOU RITIATED THE FLYWHEEL TO LOOK FOR MISSING TEETH? I HAD AN 82 T/A AND THAT WAS WHAT CAUSED MY STARTER PROBLEMS. 2004 ion won't start. Lights work. When I turn key don't get series of clicks, get one snap.

That symptom usually means the solenoid on the starter is bad and no longer is completing the circuit to engage the starter. A new starter will likely solve that issue. A series of rapid clicks would indicate a week battery. You can try repeatedly turning the key to the start position rapidly, sometimes the starter wil start working. You can also try tapping the starter while somebody holds the key in the start position, if the starter engages place it.

Starter won't engage, but it will if you cross jump the culinoid

Sometimes the anti theft security can cause the starter to be turned off. It's a pretty common thing on GM vehicles. Read about it in this link. Compare symptoms.

This could be several things....how old is your battery? if it isn't holding a full charge it sometimes won't have the cranking amps to fully engage the starter. It could be the solenoid or the starter itself but I would start with the battery.

Engine starting problems . the starter won,t turn over sometimes so i tried tapping on it and it would engage sometimes and then sometimes it would not

Your starter is bad. The spring armature in it is not pushing the apiture gear out and onto the flywheel to start your car.

Your starter is bad.
