Check your sparkplugs to determine if it is a single cylinder or random cylinder when the miss occurs. If it is a single cylinder, the sparkplug may have failed.

My dakota won't idle when cold but idles fine when warm. it also skips in low rpms

YOU NEED NEW SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES.REPLACE FUEL FILTER,CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS BY ADDING CAN OF SEAFOAM TO 3/4 TO FULL TANK OF GAS SEE IF HELP PROBLEM.IF ENGINE STILL MISSES YOU COULD HAVE WEAK IGNITION COIL AND LOW CYLINDER COMPRESSION.

I am looking to solve a problem with a code I m getting for my jeep tj 2002 , manual 4.0 straight 6 code is 301 and it says misfire in cylinder 1 changed the distributor cap still problem exists

Look for something directly related to #1 cylinder. Since you have changed the cap, look for a bad wire or spark plug on the cylinder closest to the radiator. you can test the wire by switching with another cylinder and see if the miss follows the plug wire. Next check the compression on that cylinder. If it misses at idle and smoothes out at higher RPMs, you could have low compression on that cylinder. Hope this helps..

Can an engine miss fire in two cylinders and not be noticed? In the truck on the highway, I use excessive gas and getting about 7-9 mpg. Also, I go into a low gear of about 1900 rpms with no power or high...

It sounds like you have two different problems. First it sounds like you have a transmission problem. It sounds like the band for 2nd gear is bad. As for the fuel milage problem, Is the check engine light on? If it was only running on 6 cylinders you should feel it.

1990 cavalier runs rough(misses)really bad at low rpms, gets over 1500 and smooths out totally, but barely wil pull in gear(almost impossible to drive)

I would guess that one of the coils on the back of the block is bad. Do you have spark on all four cylinders?

Slight miss on a 2000 passat 1.8t

You answered your own question... the cause is the low octane fuel... the fix is the higher grade stuff... Also check into having injectors cleaned (or try a bottle of STP injector cleaner)
