Can you push the bike with it in gear and the clutch pulled in? If so, check your sidestand switch. It may be bent out of position.

Sounds to me like your friction plates in your clutch assy. are worn down to much.

If I put it in 1st with the clutch pulled in, it will not roll freely, either the tire will slide ... The cluch is not dis engaging in my opinion. ... it (even with the clutch lever pulled in) the clutch won't disengage, and it will drag the tire or turn the motor over. ... can get notched, however - if your bike shifts into gear (with the clutch pulled in) ... bike not able to roll when in gear even while holding ...

I changed the bars on my 01 883 sporty. Now the clutch leaver wont engage the clutch. I tried adjusting the cable but no luck. I changed back the bars, but no luck. Any ideas?

I'm not sure what you mean by "engage the clutch". When some people say this, it means the clutch won't disengage the engine from the transmission. Others say it and it means that the clutch will not engage the engine and transmission and make the bike move. It's the same way with the term "backfire". To some that's a pop from the exhaust, to others is a spit back out fo the carburetor.

Now, if you took the handlebars off, you should have only has to move the cable adjuster in the middle of the cable. If you did not change any adjustment at the primary, you should only have to the adjuster in the middle of the cable to worry about. Make sure that the cable housing is seated in the adjusters like it should be. It they are out of the adjusters, it would may your clutch stay in the "pulled in " position and the clutch will not engage the engine and transmission.

Now, when you pull the clutch lever in,you should feel the resistance of the clutch. If not, the there is the possibility that the cable came disconnected in the primary case. This is rare but I have seen it happen before. To fix it, remove the outside derby cover and you should be able to reconnect the cable with the clutch release mechanism in the primary. If you need a drawing of this area, contact me directly at wd4ity@bellsouth.net.

Good Luck

Chain does not rotate around bar. Chain brake seems to engage/disengage as intended.

With a gloved hand can you manually pull the chain around the bar? if not the chainbrake is still engaged, pull the hand guard fully back to the top handle until you hear the click from the brake mechanism, if the chain does pull around manually then there is a problem with either the cluch or the sprocket, remove the side cover, check the clutch for damage, remove the drive sprocket and check the drive teath are not badly worn allowing the chain to slip within it, replace parts as required.

When i pull clutch lever in the starter engages even if the on off switch is off

You have the clutch protection overide switch, on the clutch lever, wired up to the start button.
Check your wiring.

My bike is going into gear and revving but not engaging to pull away

IT MAYBE SOMETHING QUITE SIMPLE LIKE, NO FREE PLAY AT CLUCH LEVER, YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST 5 MM PLAY AT THE LEVER, THAT IS THE AMOUNT OF FREE MOVMENT YOU CAN PUL IN THE CLUTCH BEFORE ANY PRESSURE IS FELT, HAVE YOU BEEN ADDJUSTING THIS, DOES THE LEVER FEELVERY SPRINGY, IF SO BACK OF THE ADDJUSTER AND GIVE YOURSELF SOME FREE PLAY, PORELY ADJUSTED CONTROLS CAN CAUSE THE CLUTCH TO BURN OUT IF THIS OCCURED WHILE RIDEING THE MACHINE IT MAY BE THE CLUTCH PLATES HAVE FAILED, REMOVE OIL FILLER PLUG, A BURNING SMELL WILL BE NOTICED IN SOME CASES, FURTHERMORE, REMOVE THE FRONT SPROCKET COVER AND CHECK THE RETAINING DEVICE HAS NOT COME AWAY ALOWING THE SPROCKET TO COME OF THE SPLINED SHAFT, OR EVEN ROUNDED THE CENTRE OF THE SPROCKET CAUSING DRIVE FAILURE.

Engine starts blade won't spin

The large black plastic bar sticking up is a kick back safety device. Pull it back toward the handle to make sure it has not been engaged. If it is engaged the chain will not move. If that is not the problem then the chain clutch is defective. I am assuming the chain is not too tight.

Why wont the on and off leaver cut the blades on and off

You might have some thing on your ground. Mice like to make nests up in the shroud and if any nest material get over the grounding wire it won't shut off. Try removing the shroud and see if any foreign items are present. In none is found check and see that when the handle is applied it pulls the brake away from the fly wheel. Then release the handle and see if the brake mechanism is touching the ground wire . You might need a new spring, cable or just bend the plate down so it engages the ground wire. If the leaver is hard to pull or there is alot of slack then you will need a new cable.

Let me know if this helps.
thanks

I can't get the clutch cover back on my Husqvarna 235 e because the chain break is engaged. Spring is too tight to disengage it.

The chain brake is engaged when the brake handle is moved forward.....to ensure it is actually the chain brake...with the clutch cover off and in your hand, pull the chain brake back...if it will not move, attempt to move it forward to see if it was not engaged...if it moves forward, it is now engaged...pull back to disengage it...a lot of times the problem is not the brake, but rather the bar adjuster....if the brake is not the problem,...loosen the bar adjuster and reassemble the unit...once assembled, then adjust the bar as per the user manual.

let me know what you find.

My pto wont go in gear; 8n tracter.

Try it while just coming to a stop.or just starting to move forward.
Depress the clutch and push it back towards engagement position....because it's tied to wheel speed the moving parts might allow it to drop in.
