Just done oil change on my roadstar xv1600a oil is now spurting out of oil filler

Hi, Ray many riders are over filling their oil system because they do not know how to properly read their oil site glass or dipstick. The following procedure works on nearly all 4 stroke engines but to be on the safe side you should refer to your owners manual. Use your center stand if you have one.
1. Bring the engine up to operating temperature or let idle for 5 minutes.
2. Turn off your engine and let it sit for 2 minutes, this will allow the oil from the top end to drain to the bottom.
3. Hold your bike straight up or on the center stand and wait 2 minutes for the oil in the bottom of the engine to be level in the sight glass or on the dipstick.
4. Your oil level should be between the top full mark and the bottom add mark.
5. Never over fill your oil system it will cause problems:
a. oil leaking out of exhaust pipes.
b. oil leaking out of breather pipe/hose.
c. oil carryover into the air cleaner.
6. Your oil site glass must "NEVER" be completely full or empty drain or add oil as necessary.
7. Your oil dipstick must "NEVER" be over the full mark and should never be below the add mark drain or add oil as needed.

What is the purpose of oil cap on valve cover

That is where you put the oil when you are low on oil or when you an oil change. When you open the hood you should see a oil dipstick. Make sure the car has been off for at least 5 to 10 minutes. Have a clean paper towel and remove the dipstick. make sure its the dipstick if you have an automatic transmission. trans fluid is red in color oil will be golden to dark black depending on how often you change the oil. wipe the dipstick off and at the end you will see a full mark near the end. Replace the dipstick back into the tube you removed it from and pull it out again, check the end where it says full. If there is oil up to the full mark your good, if not add oil through the oil cap hole in valve cover top. re-wipe the dip stick and check to see if full. Add oil as needed. If you keep up with your oil changes as required depending on the oil requirements. 10w30 regular oil is every 3,000 miles. Castrol synthetic oil is every 21,000 miles. Use a good oil filter. Consult your auto parts dealer.

How much oil does my 03 fxst hold ?

It holds three quarts of engine oil with a filter change. When you change the oil and filter, pour three quarts in the tank and start the engine up for one minute. With the bike still on the side stand, check the oil. The level should be between the lines. Do not "top it off". As long as the level is between the lines, whether the oil is hot or cold, do not add oil. Only add oil if the level goes below the lower line. The top line is "FULL HOT" and the lower line is "FULL COLD".

Good Luck
Steve

After changing oil the cap on oil tank keeps blowing off.

Sounds like you've overfilled the oil. The stick has two marks on it. The top mark is 'FULL HOT" and the lower mark is 'FULL COLD". If you changed the oil filter, you add three quarts of oil. If you did not change the filter, you only put 2.7 quarts in the tank. The next time the cap blows off, as long as the oil level is above the lower mark, do not add anymore oil and see what happens. As long as the oil level is between the marks, do not add oil. Sportsters are notorious for this. People check the oil before they go riding and "top it off". Bad move. As long as the oil is between the lines when cold, ride the bike to warm it up, and then maybe add a bit if it's low. Do not bring it up to the top line even if the engine is warm. About half way is good enough.

Good Luck

Bought a 2004 CBR600 RR how do i check and add oil

Oil should be changed every 2 to3K miles. Anytime i buy a used bike i drain the oil right away cause u never know what might be in there...I recommend Castrol Syntec Actevo 10-40 wt. motorcyle oil..buy 4 qts...Put bike level on level ground and after you have drained oil and spun on a new filter...put in 2 qts...then check dipsticks (crisscroos marks on bottom of dipstick should be covered in oil when oil is full) slowly top off checking dipstick frequently so as not to overfill...proper dipstick check is to unscrew stick, wipe it off and reinsert without screwing it in, when oil is to top of crisscross you are full...My friends 2002 F4 has a sight glass NOT a dipstick so incase that's what you have watch oil level in sight glass (should be 1/2 to 3/4 full) Drainplug is under engine and is 17 mm...Good Luck to you friend....Tim

CHECK OIL LEVEL FOR CAMRY

Hi, Here are a few steps to help you with this issue.

Step1 c0d5c2621e60088a1_thumb.jpg Make sure your car is level. Any angle can give a false reading. Warm the engine. TURN THE ENGINE OFF. Now wait for a while, to let the oil to come down to the pan.(5 minutes is enough) Now, find and pull out the oil dipstick. If you can't find oil dipstick, check the owner's manual. You will find it on the top of the engine with a brightly colored handle that says "Engine Oil. Step2 07cb03604f4a35b81_thumb.jpg Now pull the dipstick out of the engine and wipe off the oil on the stick. Be careful this oil will drip. Once the stick is clean reinsert it in the engine. Step3 a378a48854d5e3a81_thumb.jpg Now, pull the dipstick again and check the oil level. It should be at "FULL" or slightly below the "FULL" mark. If it's not below or at the "ADD OIL" mark its OK. It is good to top it. However, this is hard to do without overfilling. If you overfill, the engine will just kick out the excess oil and may leak it on your driveway. If you wait to the add oil mark, your engine will normally take one quart. Step4 Check the oil condition: If it's really black, it's time to change it. Normally you keep track of the mileage since last oil change. CHANGE YOUR OIL BASED ON, TIME IN ENGINE AND/OR MILAGE AS PER THE MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATIONS. If it's slightly-brown, it's probably O.K.
If it's white (coffee or milk color) it means the engine has a problem. Coolant has mixed with the oil due to an internal engine problem, like a blown head gasket or worse. Call a mechanic. Step5 To top off the engine oil you need to know the oil brand and viscosity. Usually, indicated on the last oil change receipt. If you don't know this, it's best to change the oil and put in one brand.
Find the add oil cap. Again refer to the owners manually. It is usually labeled "ADD OIL" or "OIL"

Add a little amount of the oil. Wait for a minute to let the oil get to the pan. Again check the oil level. (steps 2 & 3) If it's still low, add some more. Don't overfill! Remember to reinstall the dipstick and oil filler cap when you're finished.

Please rate and god bless.
