I took the baffles out of my pipes ,the bike ran great,i later got home installed new plugs and dropped some cones in the exhaust pipes for backpressure that night, the next morning the bike backfired and would sputter as if it was not getting enough gas,my bike is a 2006 dyna superglide ,fuel injected-don't know what caused it to act this way since the day before it ran great without the cones or new plugs??/

SOURCE: Harley 2006 Dyna Superglide pipes fit Harley 2005 Ultraglide

No. The head pipes will bolt up to the heads because those mounts are the same, but the rest of the exhaust mounts are different.

How to remove baffles

The best way to learn how to do this is to go to youtube and watch a video on how to do it. That's the way I get the answers to all my stuff I have the same bike and have done all my work. Once you remove the baffles you will need to put tourque cones in the exhaust between the pipes and the cylinder head to provide enough back pressure so your engine will run right. The Harley shop has them they don't cost much. Just a doughnut shape piece of metal. Then the bike will run good and sound good too.

Our bike spits , sputters , bacfires and pops once it warms up , ran injector cleaner in it , had injectors cleaned , changed exhaust pipes to Rusch pipes with baffles but nothing has helped . Check...

engines -regardless of make -- that have the problems indicated suffer from problems from incorrect valve clearance when hot , loose valve seat inserts , leaking injectors, low fuel pressure, faulty ignition modules , faulty coil/s and ignition timing
back firing occurs when there is spark or compression fire still going on when the inlet valve is opened
this stops and burns the next charge of air /fuel mixture in the inlet manifold.
spark occurring at the wrong time can be from a faulty ignition module, bad earth , faulty coil loose ignition wires to switch, faulty switch
engines will run with out exhaust pipes( very noisy ) but will run ok
tuned pipes help with performance so baffled or not is not your original problem

I have a 2008 Harley Crossbones with Rinehart Crossover exhaust. It just isn't loud enough for me. I am used to no baffles in my carb bikes. How do I get more sound. Cut baffles?

Check after market pipe makers like Fubar or Kirker.Don't mess with baffles it aint worth the hassle of re-setting the computer.New duel pipes with straight pipe design will come with the new mixture settings.

My Honda VTX 1300 backfires when I close the throttle or when I shift down. What should I do. It sounds like a gun shot

Your bike is running lean (too much air and not enough fuel). What, if any, modifications have you done to the bike? If you changed the exhaust out for louder pipes, you need to adjust the f/a (fuel/air) mixture in the carburetor to compensate for more air going through the bike. Let me know here if you have made any type of mods to the bike.

How to install a set of Vance&Hines Pro High Output Pipes onto a 2009 Harley super glide

It's basicaly take the old pipes off, move some hardware to the new pipes, both the new pipes on. You'll probably have to move the exhaust flanges and the split rings from your old pipes to your new ones. If the new pipes came with "torque cones" simply drop then into the pipes before you put them on. Be careful not to strip an exhaust bolt hole, spray some penetrating lube on the studs.

Once you replace the pipes, you bike might not run too well as you'll probably need to make some computer changes. Can't help you there.

How to install torque cones on a harley

Take your exhaust pipes loose and drop the cone into the pipe. It has a lip that catch on the top of the pipe. Then, bolt the pipe back up.

Wont start

Hi,

Oil from the breather is an indicator of compression bypassing the rings. This causes sump compression.
Cause of the problem is worn rings.
You need to conduct a compression test, if the compression is low then rings are probably the cause of the bike not starting.

Cheers

Jon
