Put the bike in neutral, disconnect the bulb and check the harness(part that plugs into the bulb)with a voltmeter.and make sure the key is on.

Bike headlamp wireing problem headlamps getting very hot and keep blowing and when both connected up the high beam dash light goes out like they are drawing too much power.

Hi Anonymous, if your headlight is not working, keeps burning out or is dim the first thing you need to check is the headlight bulb for damaged filaments then check your light circuit fuse, that being said the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty ground or power supply wire to headlight bulb socket.
2. Worn, chaffed, or broken wires in the light circuit.
3. Corroded, broken, or loose pins/sockets in wire connectors.
4. Faulty hi/lo beam switch.
5. Faulty ignition switch.
6. Fuse is good but no continuity on both sides.
7. Faulty wiring between battery positive and headlight bulb socket.
8. Weak charging alternator/generator.
9. Faulty voltage regulator/rectifier, overcharging.

I have bandit 1200 wont start in neutral with side stand down also no neutral light on dash. bike year 1999 please help

This could be the clutch switch:
1. Check the wires to make sure they are plugged firmly into the switch.
2. Use a voltmeter to check that resistance through the switch goes to zero when the clutch handle is pulled in.

If you have replaced the clutch switch with a fuse....check that the fuse is good and the blades are not corroded.

My 98 1200 Bandit seem to have high current consumption. If I connect an ammeter inseries with the battery +ve lead and switch on ignition it reads 2.2 amps, this seems excessive. This is without the...

Bear in mind that even without the engine running there may be a number of things drawing power:

The ignition coil will be powered up
Does the bike also have permanent running lights on as soon as the ignition is engaged?
Your neutral light will be on (only .2 of an amp)
Does the bike have an electric fuel pump?

All these things may add up. You are only drawing about 25 watts, which is the power it takes to illuminate a brake light.

While I don't have data on the power consumption, it doesn't seem that excessive
