Question about 2004 Honda VTX 1300 Retro

1 Answer

2004 vtx has noise in frontend at times.

I have a 2004 vtx retro and at times going down the road I have a noise that sounds like a nest of birds fighting. Braking makes no difference in noise. I thought at first it could be a wheel bearing or fan bearing but am not sure. I have a windshield and do have some noise when the wind is blowing at times. It only happens while on the move and usaly at speeds above 50mph.

Let the bike idle in your driveway until the fan comes on to find out if it is the fan. Put the front wheel in the air and spin the tire by hand to check front wheel bearings. Also hold the top and bottom of the front tire (may want to take the fender off, or grab from the inside diameter of the rim) and try to move wheel side to side to feel for play in the front wheel bearings. There should be no movement. Could be helpful to have an assistant hold the bars while you try that. Please don't let the bike fall on you.

My kenmore model385.16221300 the thread keeps braking and the underside has big loops of thread

What you have is bird nesting or thread nesting and could be a result of several things. Usually, it is because the machine is mis-threaded, the thread is not seated in the tension disk, and/or the upper tension is too loose.

Remove the upper thread. ALWAYS raise the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct. Set the upper tension at the midway point between high & low number. Retest your machine.

You may need to tweak the upper tension to get it where it should be as all machines differ. The tension is correct when the upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

This may seem silly but ;how is the throttle cable adjustment .Had a 2003 come in and the complaint was the same.Adjusted the handlebar cable adjustment and what a difference. Also check the vaccum line onthe right side under the edge of the tank, near the rear. This can cause stumble. NNo you do not have to remove tank to do this..Good Luck

sounds like a wheel bearing is going out. you need to get this checked out pretty soon because this can cause more severe problems down the road
