I have a 82 yamaha 550 maxima and it won't go over 50 mph and,on top of that number four pipe won't get hot. What should I do?

The 83 has a fuel return line intended to prevent vapor lock , by circulating cooler gas through he fuel pump. You can cap off the fuel return hose and it will cause no problems. The carbs on the 82 differ quite a bit from the 83 and the petcocks are not interchangeable, with out a lot of work.

sounds like an ignition problem,
check for spark on the two middle cylinders and if no spark swap the coils and see if you get the opposite effect with 2 outside not firing .if so buy new coils , if not get back to me

You cannot get replacement pistons, they are not avaulable form Yamaha, and there are no known equivalents.

Best bet is to get a wrecked bike.
