I have a 1992 Suzuki Katana 600 and the brake light does not work. What could be the problem and can it easy to fix? Also looking for a free owners manual for that perticular bike.

    Next step is fuses James, pull each fuse and test it for continuity with your meter. Then check the brake light socket for power when someone steps on the pedal. If you're not getting power to the socket when the pedal is pressed try the hand lever. If still no power you have an electrical problem, possibly a wire shorting to ground in the harness somewhere. If you're getting power at the socket but the light won't come on you have a bad ground, probably a loose wire. You can run a new ground, but better to trace the black wire and fix it from the socket.

    What have you checked so far? Bulb, switches, and fuse?

I have the same motorcycle and had the same problem.

In my case the connector behind the back light unit (unter the buddyseat) caused the problem (probably because it was a little rusty). 1. Remove the buddy seat 2. Try to cut true those three wires and connect them again, not using the white, standard connector. 3. Try if the brake light works.

If all the other lights on your motorcycle work fine, the fuse is okay. The brake light is on the same fuse as some other signal lights.

You probably have the same problem considering both the brakes don't light up, so the brake light switches are probably okay.

I have a 1992 katana 600 runs great but when i reved it up it blew out all the signal bulbs and the headlight any advice would be great thanks greg.

sounds like the regulator/rectifier may be goiing bad. This is the motorcycle equivalent of a cars alternator. have it checked/tested by a professionl or yourself if you know how to do it.

Brake light does not always work with front brake - Ninja 250

Check the wiring connections to the front brake switch. If all OK, then it could be the switch.

Brake light problems

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Almost always, your described problem indicates a loose or no ground connection of the brake light socket (most likely) or missing IGN + 12 (least likely). If the turn signals and/or the fuel gauge works, then the latter is unlikely as they share the same IGN+12 supply line. These might interest you:
  • a wiring diagram for the 89-95 GSX600F is available here;
  • a service manual for a GSX600F is here. Pls verify year compatibility.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
