While riding my 2002 Road King the front brake sticks

While riding my 2002 Road Kking the front brake seems to gradualy apply and the handbrake is locked as if it is locked in place. The bike comes to a very quick stop. When I open the bleed valve on the front disc brake I can see the brake fluid shoot out and the brakes release. I can then ride normally.I've drained and bled the brakes but it still happens and appears normal. What is going on?

Your brake system is dirty. the plunger he is talking about does not go bad often. drain all fluid from the system. clean out your resv. really good with brake kleen. Put fresh dot fluid in and use a vacume pump to bleed brakes this will do the trick.

Seems like your caliper is going bad. The pistons inside there that drive the brakes in and out seem to be stuck and not wanting to release when you release the brake

My back brake lights stay on my 2005 road king classic.

That will be either the front or rear switch sticking, first try unpluging the front brake light switch, with this disconected if the light stays on the problem is with the rear switch, locate the switch this will be close to the brake pedal normal spring opperated which can stick, check it is closing fully, you may also disconnect the switch and check the light goes out reconnect the front switch and check correct opperation, this would thenpoint the fault towards the rear switch

My front brakes make a scraping sound when they aren't applied, when I grab the brake hanc]dle lightly it stops, what could the problem be? Also running very hot and Idles higher when its hot,...

The brake noise could be the caliper not releasing properly. Make certain it can slide smoothly when you release the brake lever. You may have to replace it if it is causing premature wear on the brake pads. If the pads are wearing evenly it is more of a noise issue than a mechanical problem. I haven't worked on a king but If I remember correct it has two calipers on the front. Check them both.

It is not unusual for a Harley to seem hotter in the summer heat and that can make it idle faster. If it has injection, you might be able to have the dealer reprogram it to allow a richer mixture which will help it run cooler but it will use more fuel and reduce your fuel mileage. If it is carbureted it can be adjusted to a slightly richer mixture.

How do i change the oil pan gasket on a 2002 Road King? I have oil leaking from the pan.

Remove the pan, clean both gasket surfaces, wipe a light film of silicone on both surfaces, then stick the new gasket back to the surface and mount the oil pan back on.

Your local dealer can give you the torque specs, but just making them 1/2 turn past finger tight works, too. Don't ride for a couple hours after you're done, so the silicone has time to set up.

I'm trying to install an air ride solo seat from a police Road King on a Road King, I can't seem to find any reference on installation. Can you help?

I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with the seat you are working with. If the seat is made by someone other than Harley Davidson, they may have a website at which you can get installation instructions. If they are not posted, contact the company via e-mail or telephone and ask for installation directions.

Good Luck

Squeaking front brakes, The pad thickness is good. How can I resolve this issue?

Had same pronlem w/2000 Road King. Noise would go away when front brakes gently applied. Remove front calipers, remove pads and clean throughly to remove any dirt, sand, road grime or rocks. Road test to see if problem goes away. If not, jack it up enought to get front tire off the floor. Rotate fron tire. Should rotate smoothly w/no hard spots. If it does not you have a piston sticking in one caliper. Dual discs if front? Don't know which side is dragging? Start cold, go for a 10-15 minute ride not using front brake and feel each rotor comparing diff in temperature. Careful they can be darned hot. Anyway the warmest one is probably sticking. H-D has a repack kit w/special lube for the pistons. Lotsa Luck.
