SOURCE: refill gearbox oil landcruiser hj75 1985?

you have probably had an equalization tube fitted to assist the oil flow back from the transfer case. if this is so you will clearly see it on the passenger side of the gearbox. remoove this hose as it will be conected to your original oil filler. after filling to the proper level replace hose as found.

good luck

Im looking at buying a 1992 toyota landcruiser 70 series with the 4.21hz motor it is manual gearbox so no trans cooler but there is oil in the radiator what are the possible causes thanks

IT is possible that the head gasket is loose and the oil passage to the overhead gear is compromised and oil is being force past the gasket into the cooling system. Some engines have an engine oil cooler in the side to cool the engine oil and if yours has one it may be split in internally. They can be tested but are di9fficult to repair. You will see radiator hoses going to and from the unit and it is bolted to the block

How check oil in gearbox of a 1999 hilux

if it is a manual gearbox there should be a plug on the side of the gearbox about halfway up unscrew it & by putting your finger in & feeling down you should be able to feel the oil, if not you need to add oil, this plug is also the oil level plug, you add oil until it runs out of the hole,if it an automatic transmission you should find a dipstick similar to the engine dipstick & you add oil through that tube......hope this helps......cheers

G'day mate yes you have a prob and i think it is empty 'transfer' case Toyota had a big prob with transfer case pushing oil into gearbox , result transfer case empty gearbox full. fix is when you get the transfer case off (maybe have stripped and checked ) then drill a small hole in the front of the transfercase at gearbox filler bung height and run the same oil in both if its a manual that is. hope this helps

On a 2.5 range rover does the coolant and gearbox oil flow through the one radiator

No the coolant radiator is a sealed system, oil and water do not mix; as far as I am aware manual gearboxes do not have coolers.

If you have oil in your coolant water this will be an engine problem. Check the engine oil is not frothy and caramel coloured.

If your gear box oil is is a brown colour or dirty looking, this is due to water ingress, either through the breather hose or seals, try changing the fluid. If you can check the seals and breaher hose.

Suggest you get a owners manual and Haynes or workshop manual.
There are plenty of free files on line, do a search on Google, Alltheweb, Lycos, etc
