Cam chain and tensioners are shot and you will have to replace them.

Hello, I have a 2001 chevy tracker with a 2.0 engine. It has a ticking noise after it warms up. during up shift at RPM's about 3000 it rattles like lifters, but go away after the shift. Some times

My Audi A4 2009 makes a rattling noise on cold starts which resolves in less than 30 seconds. Dealer says its an air pump. This doesn't seem correct. The noise comes from the front of the care. Does not...


READ THIS (happy ending so far...):
audi a4 2L turbo quattro, manual transmission with 98,000 KM. Perfect conditions, no oil leaks whatsoever.

Left the car off for two weeks in very cold weather (-10C down to -25C). When I restarted, it started immediately but with heavy rattling noise due to camshaft adjuster not getting enough oil pressure. After 3 minutes of warming up (outside temp.: -12C) at very low rpm (below 2,000rpm), I start moving the car. Still hearing heavy rattle noise. As soon as I pass 2,000 rpm, I get a scary red warning, low oil pressure. Turn off the engine immediately. In 1 minute, I re-start the car and the engine lights check ok, so I drive in first gear super slow (1,200rpm) hearing the same rattling noise. After another minute, finally the noise all the sudden disappears and the car starts running just fine.

Called Audi dealer and they told me that in extreme weather conditions, I should warm the engine for 10-15 minutes if necessary before start moving.
Take away: luckily, I didn't screw up the engine since I was using it at extremely low rpm (easy to do with clutch and manual transmission) until the oil reached full pressure. I am pretty sure now that the problem was leaving the car off for such a long time in freezing weather. All the oil flows back to the bottom, and when I restarted it, the cold oil with high viscosity took a long time to reach all the parts of the engine, specially the camshaft adjusters that are actuated by using oil pressure. Next day, the car started at -9C perfectly without making any noise (as usual). Basically, the longer you leave your audi in cold weather, the longer you might hear the rattling noise until the oil reach full pressure inside the engine. My car took 6 minutes to fix it after couple of weeks in cold weather. This makes sense to me; in fact, in the past I only heard the rattling noise after leaving the car off for a couple of days in the winter.
So far, this has had an happy ending....

only the usaul problems for a bike that age. camchain, listen for any rattling noise from the motor, and also shim adjustment, or valve clearance, and carburetta syncranization. Other than that, they are bullet proof! I had one and put over 180,000 km on it.

Although the motor on my 1991 gs 500e runs as sweet as a nut, if i ever start it and it stalls (when its cold) the cam chain makes a nasty slapping sound. can it be adjusted or do you reckon it needs...


i think these have automatic camchain adjusters...it could do the slaping sound as oil that keeps it adjusted has not built up pressure to maintain adjustment....or the adjuster could be faulty....if the canchains not slapping about when running then i dont think it the chain thats the problem...more likely to be camchain adjuster...you could try changeing the oil & fillter...this may help!!

Hydrolics rattleing when cold gos when car is


sounds like the mechanic adjusted the valve lash warm,allowing the metals to expand,you could ask your mechanic if he/she could readjust the vale lash.if its been say less than 5,000 miles since the gasket was replaced, id try ,no charge for this service

this could be a sticky cam chain tensioner as the oil gets hot it releases the adjuster to work normaly. 2 bolts it if you wish to take it off and clean it.

ZRX1100 P reg (1990?) Runs nice and smooth, is as ecomical as usual, serviced recently (no carb icing). When cold and on tick over, there is a clatter as if something is loose. Using choke, noise goes away...


Hi ...... Does noise 'go-away' if you pull in the clutch ? Could be a few things, cam chain needs adjustment or replacement (35,000 miles-ish), rotor on some Kawasakis made up of steel centre,alloy middle & steel outer. Parts can become loose, short term solution is to centre tap/spot sections but ultimately replace rotor. Have you ever had the left casing off ? Is there a gasket fitted or a thinner pattern type fitted ? When was the last time valve clearences checked/changed ? Did they change shims on that side ?
