Question about 1997 Suzuki GSX-R 600

My gsxr 600 srad 97 modle it runs fine when cold but when warm it splutters when in low revs and it back fires now an again

    it is the carb model it just feels slugish in low revs when it is hot

    Is this model carb or fuel injection. If fuel injection I can't help. If carb then finger of blame points to over rich mixture.

I have just had the same problem with my 99 srad 600. there is only one soloution to this and it is not a dyno, that just makes thing worse, the flat spot just off idle is due to it beign on carbs and i have put slightly shorter inlet tracts onto the carbs which helps them breeth easier this coupled with a new front sproket which is one tooth less than standard will get you over the stutter problem and will help the bike at lower revs as the sproket inceases the rev range right from the off throttle position, but be careful as the lower gearing makes for some good wheelies if your over keen on the gas. lol.

Assuming the carb is securely mounted and the noise is not from the tappets, there are several things it could be. One is piston slap. Piston slap translates as a worn piston "rattling around" inside the cylinder. Alternate to that, the wrist pin may have worn the connecting rod to the point where that is the problem. Alternate to that, the wrist pin itself may have wallowed out the piston on each end. Broken rings can make noise (but the bike would be smoking). Lastly, the connecting rod may be rattling around on the crankshaft. Change the oil and look for metal particles in the oil. No matter what the problem is, the engine is going to need to be torn down.

I think you may have an electrical problem connected to the radiator cooling fan as 215 F is about the temperature that this will start so as to cool the engine.So it may possibly be the fan motor or the sensor switch. Good Luck

200° is quite warm...
If the engine wont turn over, probabily you have a bad battery, a bad starter or a bad starter relay, or bad connections.

A hot engine has more compression. If the full battery power doesn't reach the starter it won't turn over...

Gsxr cuts out


replace the fuel pump or adjust the TPS. It doesnt do it in nuetral its because it is not under a load. Put in dealer mode to check the TPS. It should read -COO... If the - is not in the middle (if its up top or on bottom) it needs to be adjusted.

Sounds like dirty injectors or fuel filter. Try some injector cleaner in tank. Other than that, you need to get it checked out

I've recently bought a 98 gsxr 600 srad Aparently


Tha carbs are dried up and full of crud and some of the jets are most likely clogged. this is a job for one who know what to do since balancing and adjusting takes special tools. dont try and just dump fuel cleaner in it either it wont help! just clog it more. they will need to be opened and cleaned . from your description hopefully you got a good deal so spend the money and get it done right or you will burn it up and wind up stranded someplace not a good bike to push.

battery charge cud be low-must be at 12.6v--or connections are loose--relay may be bad--inspect all wiring for flaws and become a pro at maintenance -buy a clymer manual today

02 GSXR Limits to 4800rpm, drops to idle, when warm not cold.


If you have the stock computer replace the power commander with the stock computer then see if the problem still remains. If it goes you can be sure the problem lies within your commander and it will need to be remapped or replaced...Good luck

97 srad no power under 4000 rpm in, in first gear acceleration


If you have installed the Dynojet kit's carburetor needles take them off and use the stock ones.
Dynojet's needles are for track use only and the don't work properly under 4000rpm.
